Just that really.
When did you start letting your children have chocolate?

I honestly can't remember but I know one friend who is still holding out and her DC1 is 4 Shock. I do think she is finding it an increasingly uphill battle, though, as she starts to not be in complete control.

Dd had 2 choc buttons on Christmas day at 9 months. I guess she'll have a bit for her birthday and again at Easter. Greek natural yoghurt is like crack to her, I see no reason to introduce genuinely 'addictive' foods when she doesn't know they exist.

I guess your relative sees sweet stuff as a treat, and you depriving a way of them expressing their love. Not the case though.

DS is 13 months and had his first After Eight mint last night Grin

He loved it!

I think DD would have been about 9 months? I was very determined that my daughter wasn't going to have any sweets or chocolate until she was 5, but then we did BLW and as we were having chocolate mousse*, it felt really mean.

I just wish we had filmed the moment when she put it in her mouth, her face was a picture.

*as a true mumsnetter, the mousse was Gu Dark Chocolate Mousse purchased in Waitrose, not some cheap Asda own brand rubbish Grin

I started giving them all chocolate when they reached 6month.
Although DD got her first taste at 3month, an elderly relative decided to hold a piece in her mouth for her to suck on. I wasn't there when this happened, when I found out she told me she gave it her because DD looked hungry and was liking her lips while watching her eat.

I think dd was about 8 months. blw wasn't going particularly well and she wasn't interested in food. I had some dark chocolate and she wanted it. Gave it to her she ate it and wanted more. She then demolished some of dh's birthday cake a few weeks later. She still wasn't interested in food!

DD had some chocolate brownie crumbs at 6.5 months - I was eating a brownie and she grabbed for it. I don't know when I'll purposely give chocolate to her. I am of the "no banned foods, everything in moderation" school of thought. I believe that encourages a healthy relationship with food.

hairymonkey · 01/02/2015 06:20

How do they know though?! Mine never grabbed for bits of carrot or cheese, but it's like they have an innate sense about chocolate. No fussing or trepidation before shoving a massive brownie down their gullet.
Both mine had cake at 1st bday, and probably stuff from family before then.

PragmaticWench · 01/02/2015 06:41

If there can be a positive to allergies, this is it as DD is over two and hasn't had any chocolate yet. It has meant that family intent on getting cake or biscuits into her yes you DM have had no choice but to run everything past us first.

PragmaticWench · 01/02/2015 06:42

Not that I think chocolate is evil, just I see no need for small children to have sugar regularly.

NaughtyDoggie · 01/02/2015 07:44

her 1st birthday cake. She's now nearly 2 and she still doesn't have any of her own chocolate, she sometimes has a tiny bit of cake or brownie if we are eating it.
