How is it actually any more Baby Led than traditional spoon feeding? Its not like they sit down with a menu and say "Oh yes, today I'd like the carrot sticks with polenta pancakes" is it? You just put finger food in front of them and if they eat it, they do and if they don't, they don't. Just like spoonfeeding. Either they open their mouths to eat it or, er, they don't. You can't force feed them. Is it actually Baby Led to "make" them feed themselves or not eat? It's still actually Parent Led isn't it?
Don't get me wrong - I love the whole concept of fingerfoods only. I'm not against so called BLW but the name is, IMO, misleading. For it to be properly baby-led, you do whatever fits your baby. In the case of BabyDragon, that seems to be a mix of everything. She eats some finger foods, she likes baing spoonfed puree/mashed food, she likes having peices put in her mouth (which is, way more tedious than spoonfeeding, believe me ). But that's fine - she leads, I do whatever it takes to get food into her happily. Within reason.
Also, "anything chip shaped" turns out to not fit BabyDragon either. She (and I'm fully prepared to accept that she is, quite frankly, wierd!) prefers small pieces. She's quite happy to gamely try and shovel in handfuls of rice, peas and sweetcorn but fingers of stuff? Oh no. They're for squishing. Take lunch today - cheese on toast. She kept on trying the small cubes of toast but threw the fingers or bigger chunks on the floor. So, if your baby doesn't get on with chip shapes, try little chunks. You'll still end up with a lot on the floor but some of that handful has to make it in, doesn't it?
