Blw and porridge fingers, dry weetabix etc

I did porridge fingers for DS this morning which he loved and he is dairy free so not too much milk to express! But I was wondering, we did porridge and weetabix on spoons with DS1 and it meant I could keep up a good intake of milk/calcium through breakfast. This obv isn't possible with crunchy weetabix and porridge fingers. Do people give a whole load of extra cheese etc when blw? Am struggling with calcium as dairy free so wondering if I shld express more an do proper porridge instead...

Breastfeeding should meet calcium needs i would have thought.

Ah yes of course. Should have mentioned DS doesn't like to feed AT ALL during the day, and am hoping increased solids might help with feeding all night long....

Of course, that's why people don't worry about calcium intake. Silly question, sorry...

I do mini shredded wheat with milk. They hold their shape quite well even when quite soggy.

I use koko or oatly milk for my dd who is allergic, both are fortified with calcium. She still bfs twice a day at 13 months, but I gave up expressing for food at about 7 months. Other good dairy free calcium sources are leafy green veg, tinned fish with bones mashed in (but watch the salt), best of both bread, and dried figs.

Sengi, someone has just suggested that I use neocate for cooking. I haven't picked up the prescription yet and I plan to bf til self weaning, but it was suggested that as it tastes so vile the earlier I introduce it the better. Have you ever done this or were you advised koko etc is enough for them alongside bf?

We were offered nutramigen but never tried it. I didn't see the point as dd was already on solids and still bf, and likely to object to the taste! Dietician advised that koko etc are fine to use in food, just not as a main drink before 1. I think you only need nutramigen/neocate if you want to replace bf. Just use koko as you would cows milk.

I think I did bitesize cereal slightly soaked in milk for ds, but this time with dd I'm just spoon feeding when she'll let me! Maybe just spoon feed the porridge?

Have you tried loaded spoons for mushy cereal / porridge (made with whatever milk you use)? Might be a bit much cleaning for morning - we never did it for that reason.

I second mini shredded wheat, in a bit of milk. They were the first thing my DD really got the hang of eating great quantities of.
