Ridiculous weaning question!

So I'm 10 days into BLW, and what a faff it is. I'm not bothered by the mess as such, but have yet to find a good way to handle cleaning DD up. After 'eating' her face, bib, hands, arms and tray are covered with food. So when I attempt to wipe some part up, it just ends up covered again as she re-distributes the goo that's all over the bits that I haven't wiped up yet. What am I missing here?! There must be an easier way to get her and the kitchen cleaned up afterwards, surely!

Could you give the tray a quick wipe, then do her hands, arms and face. Take her out of the chair. Remove her bib, clean her up properly then take the highchair outside for pressure washing? Grin

Are you using the bibs with sleeves?a trick that I found using them was loop the Velcro neck bit round the straps and it's tighter to their neck so less clothes mess, and depending on the high chair but put it on before you fix the tray as it holds it down a bit better
Then for clean up I did, ds isn't as messy now
Tray but don't remove it
Hands and arms
Face,
Remove tray and do another quick once over, undo straps, stand or hold them up over the seat and brush them down, then you will find all the stashed bits.
Then you should be good Grin

Another thing you can do is to pull the long sleeve of the bib down over her hand once it's clean, so she can't put her hands on something sticky while you do the other one and then her mouth.

Then the bib comes off, and you have a moderately clean baby...

YANBU BLW looks utter madness to me and I'm glad it hadn't been invented when my two were small!

Yep, that's what I do. Apart from the highchair, that stays encrusted until the cleaner comes.

Ah I cracked this one on baby number 1 who refused to be spoon fed.

  1. Before eating put cover all bib on baby.
  2. Put on extra bib over the top. It doesn't matter what sort of bib this is, pelican ones are good for catching fallen scraps.
  3. Pull sleeves of coverall bib half way up forearm to avoid food saturation.
  4. Let baby at the food. When finished eating...
  5. Wipe highchair tray with a cloth while simultaneously wiping baby's hands with flannel or wipe to get mostly clean.
  6. Remove top bib
  7. Finish cleaning baby
  8. Remove coverall bib remembering to grab the bottom and roll up and away so as to catch food that fell in baby's lap.
  9. Swiftly pull baby from highchair and wipe down highchair properly. You're done!

I strip the baby to his nappy and feed at the table (plastic table cloth) wipe face and hands and let the dog in to clean the floor.

Spindelina · 15/10/2014 19:47

Can you pull the high chair away from the table? Or take the tray off? That leaves you with just the baby to deal with.

Littlef00t · 17/10/2014 13:47

I use the coverall bib and tuck hands into the arm holes, and also use a tea towel around waist to keep her legs clean.

Really good bib that's tight around the neck (Silly Billyz snugglenecks work well). Keep supply of old flannels in the kitchen.

So, after meal:

  • wipe any huge bits of food off baby's face and hands with damp flannel
  • transfer baby to edge of sink, put hands under running tap to clean and wipe face until clean, then put flannel in sink
  • remove bib (into sink)
  • out baby down, rinse bib and flannel and clean highchair

The running water really helps!
