Our 8mth old little angel is eating really well but drinking less and less milk. He is eating as much fromage frais as we'll let him have -should we worry?

PcCOD · 29/09/2006 20:18

yes stop him! or hell be on hous eof tiny tearaaways as one fo thsoe who tiwill onyl eat mush

lilymolly · 29/09/2006 20:34

can you put milk in his solid food?
Cereal, cauli cheese, milky mash etc. this may be a way to increase his milk intake, yogurts are great for calcium, I give dd one a day but she still has 20oz of formula.

morningpaper · 29/09/2006 20:52

Do you mean something like Petit Filous?

I would really give one a day MAX

He will eat a box of chocs if you put them in front of him.

CantSleepWontSleep · 29/09/2006 21:00

1 Petit Filous contains 3 teaspoons of sugar, so I would be VERY wary of letting him live on this sort of thing.

lilymolly · 30/09/2006 21:53

CSWS- Is that true? Where did you get that info from, this is a little concerning.

Seona1973 · 30/09/2006 22:34

1 small petit filous has about 6g of sugar - is that really 3 teaspoons of sugar??

hunkermunker · 30/09/2006 22:35

6g of sugar loads for a baby whether it's three tsps or not. Think there's definitely 3tsps in a bigger pot.

morningpaper · 30/09/2006 22:38

1 teaspoon sugar = 5 grams

lilymolly · 30/09/2006 22:40

Oh Oh........

Ooops will be cutting these down then..

Oh sod it! everything in moderation Right Girls??????????

tortoise · 30/09/2006 22:41

I have seen others recommend natural yog with fruit mixed in.Much better than fromage frais.

moondog · 30/09/2006 22:42

Plain yoghurt is better still.
My kids have never had owt else.
(Although I did catch dd digging sugar out of a bag with a teaspoon to eat today when making a cake with her.)

hunkermunker · 30/09/2006 22:45

DS1 loves "flower yoghurt" - the Yeo Valley plain stuff (it has a flower on the front of it).

I think if you give them lots of refined sugar when they're tiny, their palate gets used to it and craves it all the more. I know that bmilk and formula are sweet, but I think that's different.

lilymolly · 30/09/2006 22:47

what about plain yogurt with fruit puree mixed in?

hunkermunker · 30/09/2006 22:49

Yep, you can do that too. It's just the refined sugar I don't like for babies.

lilymolly · 30/09/2006 22:49

.......going to fridge and chucking pots in bin....... (recycling bin of course)

Tommy · 30/09/2006 22:52

I remember one day when all DS1 had to eat was 6 of those things

but I would also hasten to add that DS2 more or less gave up drinking milk when I stopped bfeeding him and he's fine
(second child syndrome - you learn from your mistakes with the first )

lilymolly · 30/09/2006 23:10

guess you must be so more relaxed with second one.

lilymolly · 01/10/2006 09:19

Must go and buy some natural yoghurt today. Anyone care to join me.....

NotSoUselessMum · 01/10/2006 15:15

didn't know about the PF either!! my DD was the same at 8 months. I think she has two a day... oh damn!!

anyway she really likes greek yougurt with fruit or cereal, is that ok????

please`say yes or I am going back to UselessMum.

Kelly1978 · 01/10/2006 15:20

what cereal do you put int hem? Mine love yoghurt with starberries or bluberries, never thought of adding cereal. Tried honey but that didnt go down too well.

NotSoUselessMum · 01/10/2006 15:38

i'm scared to say as I am sure they're BAAAAD!!

anyway, if I come clean I am sure someone will suggest I swap for something better.

I've tried weetabix but DD hates them, so I mix them with... special K!!

[scared emoticon]

DanielMummy · 01/10/2006 22:15

I mostly give my little one yoghurt and fruit. But I also give him Little Dish fromage frais which he loves. That has no added sugar.

aitch71 · 01/10/2006 22:28

where do you buy the little dish things, danielmummy?

hairymclary · 01/10/2006 22:30

mums4 yoghurts and little rachels organic don't have sugar in either. tesco and sainsburys both stock them

DanielMummy · 02/10/2006 09:06

Aitch I get them from Ocado. I used to buy the Mums4 yoghurts but had a nasty experience in the summer when I opened one and it was mouldy, still within use-by date. Put me off them.
