I'm I being a bad mother for letting my 8.5month old eat crackers? Are they too salty? Does anyone else let their babe eat crackers?

Of ccourse you're not a bad mother but they are quite salty so I'd look for a more baby friendly alternative. As he likes dry, crunchy crackers why not get some biscotti or try very well done toast instead.

cow and gate or similar baby food manufacturer used to make savoury fingers that my ds loved (that was about 3 years ago, not sure if they stille exist)...they tasted just like crackers without the salt.

gave mine crackers from 6 months and marmite on toast - in moderation ! as long as not fed solely on them, should be ok - try rice cakes - unsalted baby friendly ones from Organix , which are a good alternative...

Thanks. I guess I know that they are not ideal. Just wondered if I was the only one who had caved in. Also, I'm living in a small city in Brazil right now and there are no rice cakes or baby friendly crackers to be found. I've looked. Even wondering about trying to make my own but not sure how realistic that is! Maybe toast would be a better (and easier!) solution.

Annabel Karmel's home made rusks

Cut a 1/2 inch thick slice of wholemeal or rye bread into 3 strips.
Melt 1/8 teaspoon of marmite ( or brazilian equivalent!!) into 1 teaspoon boiling water and brush evenly over the bread strips.
bake in oven at 350 degrees f (180 degrees c) for 15 minutes
can be made without marmite and made in batches that will keep in an airtight box for 3 - 4 days.

hope this helps x
