Yoghurt for 6mo

Just started weaning my 6mo dd. Her weight isn't as high as it should be so now we're giving her food I've been recommended to give her full fat stuff like milk and yoghurt. Any advice on what yogurt would be good?

Just whole milk yoghurt, full fat, I have always given plain yoghurt sometimes sweetened with fruit sometimes on its own.

Whole milk childrens ones, but at such a young age I would avoid the sugar ladened ones, Ella's kitchen do sugar free ones, think there are some other brands that do too.

Thanks it was the sugar I was worried about.

I've always given full-fat Greek yoghurt (along with Petit Filous, less frequently) and my son can't get enough of it. Sometimes I mashed a bit if banana into it too, or one of the fruit purees. We did BLW though, so hardly any actually went in for the first few months!

I have been giving neo valley plain yoghurt which has no added sugar. She will eat it with fruit or on its own.

I would give full fat plain greek style yoghurt. It doesn't need any extra sweetness, but you could add fresh fruit if you want.

Even the children's yoghurts that have no added "sugar", use other types of sugar instead eg agave syrup or concentrated grape juice. Both of which are effectively adding sugar!

agree - full fat greek yoghurt is the most nutrient dense and is lovely and thick and creamy. I add a bit of stewed fruit - stewed apple and cinnamon is nice at this time of year. or just chop up banana and dip it in the yog, put on high chair and step back!

Yeo valley plain, with fruit, or they also do 'minis' now which aren't too sugary.

Hand her the spoon and duck Grin

Homemade rice pudding with whole milk is good for fattening them up. Also custard on fruit.

soot is it homemade custard you give? What do you use instead if sugar?

NoraRobertsismyguiltypleasure · 03/10/2014 18:52

Yeo Valley is lovely, my DD has had that since she was 6 months, usually with a little fresh fruit. I also do homemade custard, just leave the sugar out and add a little vanilla.

Sootgremlin · 03/10/2014 20:08

Egg, corn flour and milk and, as noraroberts above just add vanilla and leave out the sugar. I usually do it with banana and the whole is sweet enough.

I've given both my two only plain stuff from the beginning, my eldest has sugary stuff too on occasion, but he still likes the plain too.

Thanks. Full fat Greek yoghurt went down a treat. Fed her at my mum's in case there was mess Grin

I found dd didn't eat a whole huge pot of Greek natural yoghurt before the 3 days were up and you're supposed to throw or eat yourself but Tesco do mini pots and dd would eat half a day, so I just transferred the remains into pot with lid for next day.

Also meant she didn't have to have yoghurt every day.
