DS is EBF and he is 6 months old tomorrow. We are going to begin the weaning process but don't really know how to go about it!!

We are giving him mashed/puréed carrots but how much am I supposed to give and when? Does he need to be restricted to one or two spoonfuls or do I let him have as many as he wants?

And should he be on one 'meal' a day or more???

I really don't understand puree recipes. I asked my mum and she said - we did a few single foods like pear and carrot. Then we mushed up a bit of our dinner. Grin

Allergies will probably be what they will be. You followed guidance on waiting to six months.

On choking, just go with softish stuff while you find your feet. Cucumber and banana are perfect (if he has black strings in his poo tomorrow don't panic. That is banana! ). I might slightly steam apple. Or do what my mum did and give it him whole to scrape bits off with his teeth.

A stick of cucumber was the first thing I gave DD 2 weeks ago, she loved sucking on it! For banana (I hate them too!) if you cut a piece off the end about 2 inches long, leaving the skin on, then trim about an inch of skin off the top so it looks a bit like an ice cream cone. That way the baby can hold onto the skin part more easily.

We tried ours with watermelon slices so they could grip the slices, and they just went mad with it, getting it everywhere and sucking it. We tried them with avocados as well, not much taste but it got them experimenting. Mine adore baked potatoes at minute but she can't work out the skin yet though she does suck on it! Grin

We did become awful parents once and tried them with lemon - their expressions were priceless! Grin

My pureed just considered of mashed fruit and our dinners haha.

He's just sucked some banana and I definitely think he swallowed something!! He wasn't impressed with the cucumber but did swallow a few pieces of grated cheese.

He and his clothes are absolutely filthy!!! Grin

Ikea sell great long sleeved bibs!

Any swallowing at this stage is great, for the first few weeks it's all about just playing with the food: feeling it, tasting it, throwing it!

We use these (painting aprons)! They are awesome for mess haha.

Aww glad he liked the banana! Cheese is always good to try too, :)
