What do you feed your 1 year old?

Am curious... DS is now 1 and I'm wondering if I'm giving him enough 'challenging' foods. I've just been giving him AK recipes from the 9-12 month section in the book - I don't puree I just give them a mash. He also eats toast, cheese chunks, slices of apple and pear (but he always seems to spit these out once he's chewed them!), strips of chicken etc. He still has weetabix everyday for brekkie - sometimes with banana.

hi hows you? that seems ok, our dd also spit out the chunks of apple, we have to peel the skin off first before she'll eat them - even now! ak is still good book to use tho. have you tried him/her (sorry)on smaller versions of what you eat?

Smaller versions of what you eat is a good idea. DS loves lasagne (veggie which we either make with veg & red lentils, or spinach & ricotta). He also loves Shepherds pie, Cauli Cheese, Fish Pie, pasta with tom sauce, veg curry (mild). It means you don't have to make so much as well. I don't mash any of it - just chop it up well. We also have copious amounts of corn chowder, minestrone, & pumpkin soup in the freezer in case what we are having isn't suitable. He also loves gnawing corn on the cobs which he tackles with great enthusiasm!

Ds still has Weetabix or Ready Brek for breakfast.

let him sit on your lap and sample whatever he fancies off your plate.

15 month old is a funny soul. She'll attempt to eat an apple whole some days and other days will refuse something which is only mildly lumpy. Funnily enough she will eat anything if dh and I are eating it (including chilli)! Generally her appetites guide me and I always have her favourite chicken pasta with peaches on standby - just in case. I've always found textures more confusing than flavours as she likes the taste of just about anything. I found jars of baby food at the appropriate age group useful to have if only to compare 'lump size'
