Freezing Baby Food

I have bought ice cube tray style containers to freeze home made baby food and am wondering if i should add the formula to thin before freezing or after thawing?

Also does anybody know how long puree'd fruit/veg will last in fridge and in freezer?

I don't know the official answer but I add liquid after defrosting because he started by having things very liquidy but slightly more solid now and I wouldn't tend to put formula into straight purees and would only use if baby rice was involved.

There was another question about the frozen purees and the consensus was somewhere between 4 weeks - 8 weeks, up to you which you go for tbh.
When I am making up a batch I tend to keep enough out for that day and the next and freeze the rest, but I am willing to be told otherwise by those more knowledgeable.

After. Not for any reason other than freezing can change the consistencey of the food meaning you mean more or less. Add it when it's heated.

Hi, 6 weeks for meaty things and veg and fruit can go up to 8 weeks, they eat it so quick anyway it doesn't really matter. You can add formula beforehand but I think rookiemum's idea of adding afterward is better. I found with FunkyDude, he progressed so fast that he didn't need extra liquid in his food.

If your unsure just use the cooking liquid, or mix with some rice once heated to give it a creamy texture.

I would say after too as milk does not keep as long in the freezer as veggies.

i've made up potatoes, carrots and courgette. so far he likes the potatoes and loves the carrots! thanks for the help!

Just got the Annabel Karmel book out of the library and she reckons fruit & veg puree can be stored for 6 months , purees with milk for 4-6 weeks, fish, red meat & chicken for 10 weeks.

They all seem a bit generous to me and I am sure that rookiebaby wouldn't be the least bit interested in some heavily pureed fruit in 6 months time, but I would take it to mean that fruit & veg would be good for at least two or three months.
