At what age is it save to give nuts?

I mean from a choking point of view, not allergies. I'm pretty sure I read somewhere 5 years which I think is over the top.

Yep, 5 years for whole nuts. I think allergy-wise (for things like peanut butter) it's over age 1.

Can you just crush them up? It may seem over the top, but I think I would still cut things like grapes in half up until that age as they are a real chocking hazard.

Depends on the nut I think - I have given DS1 softer nuts like cashews from about 2. I'd give him any nut now at 4, but sitting down and supervised. I also cut grapes until he was almost 4 though.

My DD is 2.5 and I have given her cashews for a while and Brazil nuts recently. She's really sensible and knows she has to chew them and I watch her like a hawk. I wouldn't do it if I didn't trust her and wasn't on hand to turn her upside down and bang her back. We did baby led weaning and she never gave me any heart stopping moments then. How old is your little one?

Nut products are ok from 6 months e.g peanut butter. Whole nuts not recommended before age 5 due to choking risk

She's 21 months. Just thinking of healthy snacks. She does eat stones......
