Weaning

Snacks? Does this sound ok?

My baby has always loved her milk so even when weaning she's had a good amount of milk but last few days her milk intake has reduced loads. She just has eaten more and hasn't really wanted her milk to be honest. But what I wanted to ask really as well was for example today she had Weetabix with an ice cube size of fruit in it for breakfast then straight after that she had 5 ounces of milk that was all she'd drink. That was finished about half 6. About 8, quarter past she was moany so I put her in her highchair and fed her a milkybar yoghurt, gave her finger food of baby biscotti and baby ricecake and then fed her 1 kiwi. She wanted it all and of course she had control of the finger foods so could stop when she wanted to anyway. She's quite hard to keep happy anyway she's not very independent and is like a Velcro baby. Does this sound too much to eat? She is happier now I think. She wouldn't eat it unless she was hungry anyway would she?

Do your babies eat this often? She's 9 months

I guess it's more of a pudding than a yoghurt. I think we will be buying more cheese from now on so i'll try give her some cheese next time then. I think she'd need loads of cheese to make her full though

I don't think it is too much, I am not an anti sugar person but I wouldn't give the milky bar pudding it has a lot of sugar in (about 80% of recommended amount per day for a toddler)
My ds has always had a good amount of food around breakfast but then tends to not want to eat lunch.

I would maybe have given a yoghurt rather than the pudding thing and maybe a bit of toast instead of biscotti. You could even do cheese on toast if you want to offer more cheese.

Mine eats more than I do at some meals but less at others so I think it's fine. Agree with others about the yoghurt though - I would offer plain whole yoghurt, with fruit purée in maybe.

I kind of want to save stuff like cheese on toast for meals and something quick for snacks (and portable for when we're out and about). Also mornings are hard to get ready as well. Thanks all it's so hard this parenting lark lol

She's always had a massive appetite, I think anyway, from 3 months old, whether that be milk or food

She wouldn't eat it if she didn't want it. I agree with everyone on the yoghurt though. I would just give her a little bowl of plain yoghurt with some fruit in too.

Both my DSs have been partial to banana mashed on a big ricecake at this age if you want something easy and pickupable for a snack.

What snacks do you take out and about with you for your baby?

I do have different yoghurts in they're like fromage frais with fruit puree in - you know the ones which are child size. I know these will not fill her up though one is not enough.

If I tried her with plain yoghurt I think she'd need loads to fill her up too should I just give her loads of plain yoghurt til she says no?

Bread sticks
Rice cake
Veg or fruit pouches or purée or sticks of
Cheese

Those fromagefrias are too sugary for babies, choose sugar free things

A yoghurt would fill her up as much as one of those puddings.

Snacks on the go for us were breadsicks, fruit, ricecakes, sticks of cheese.

Yes it would fill her up as much as the yoghurt pudding but the yoghurt pudding doesn't fill her up I have to give her other things after. Most fruit is too messy on the go. I will get some breadsticks she hasn't had them yet.

On the go food mine liked: Peanut butter sandwich cut in fingers, breadsticks, banana, blueberries (total winner here), ricecakes, slices of cucumber, red pepper, sometimes halved grapes. a couple of rich tea fingers, the less mess the better when you're out and about. A big cup of water and you're all set.

Also, I've always found those fruit puree pouches are very handy to have roaming around the bottom of your bag for the days you've run out of everything else.

Ellen Satyr's book child of mine is great on feeding. It says for each snack or meal offer some protein, carbs, fat and fruit/veg as one of these on its own is less filling. But that dc may not eat all bits of the snack at all times
