BLW confusion??

Hi guys, I've got a nearly 8 mo that prefers packet foods! Will only eat a few spoons of homemade, likes yogurts/fruit/puddings etc, and will eat some finger foods, just worried hes not eating enough fresh and dont want him to be a fussy eater. Read a bit about this blw, and wondering what he can have at this age, if me and hubby are having lasagne for example, can I give him that? Or Shep pie, as its made with gravy? Chips? Meat choaking hazard? Can he have brown or white bread? Can I still give him some meals from a spoon, ie cereal in a morning? Or yogurt after lunch etc? Sorry I know there's prob a million threads on here, but I'm confused, and don't wanna purchase a book if its not for us. Thank you x

At 8 months you can give everything expect honey and whole nuts (although a certain amount of common sense/trial and error is also necessary as every child is different). This cut into chunky chip size batons work well with root veg and toast etc. My DD2 is 7 months loves all the soft fruit that is around at the moment so I cut a ripe nectarine (or peach or plum) in half, remove the stone and then cut each half into 3 or 4 segments. I keep the skin on as it makes it easier to hold and she just spits it out.

it is fine to give the same food as you are having but just be careful about salt levels. Don't add stock or use baby stock (or if possible crumble the stock cube in at the end after you have taken the baby's portion out). I wouldn't give a baby gravy as it is quite high in salt. How about just taking some of the mash potato off the top and putting it on the highchair top so he can get his fingers in it. Some cooked carrot batons would probably work well too.

Lasange would be fine in my view as long as no salt added and fine to mix finger food with spoon feeding. I'd put some lasange in strips with some sauce on the highchair top and then mash up a bit with the back of a fork until it is mushy maybe adding a bit more white to keep it moist and try and spoon feed a bit of that. See what he likes best!

That's what I was worried about the salt levels if he eats our food, I never cook or use salt, apart from on my chips, when I have them but I know its generally in foods, just wondering how to make a Shep pie without stock or gravy, he hates mash so I could make it separate with sweet pots and veg, when can they have Yorkshires? I'm sure I can rem my niece sucking on one at 9months ish. Can u use 1 cal spray to cook with?
Sorry he's my first and I got the Annabel karmel meal planner and its made me so worked up about food with him, I bet I'm making him fussy with worrying! Thanks x

First of all - calm down! everything will be okay!

Do you meal plan on a weekly basis? what kind of meals to you eat. There is no need to run around and stress yourself out it won't make any difference if he is on the packet baby food for a few more days while you make a plan. Think of the food you would like to eat, theof which meals have the least salt and do that. If he is likely to refuse it then don't go to much effort on his behalf as you'll only get disappointed.

I agree with you weaning seems very complicated and stressful until you get into the habit of which meals work well and how it is best to serve them.

Hi, hubby will eat anything and I'm on rosemary connelly diet to lose baby weight (4st eekk, well 22lbs to go) but it's basically healthy eating,so I've thought I'm gonna give him packet at dinner to wean him off them then give him an edited version of ours at dinner time followed by his usual fruit/yogurt/pudding. Then its only a few months til he'll be eating sarnys, soup or whatever for lunch. Now I've talked to other mums on here n calmed down and thought about it I feel daft for stressing, he's only gonna eat what I give him n he'll get the hang of it x
