Which porridge

Hi

Which porridge do you use for your baby because I gave my baby the Heinz baby creamy porridge that's suitable for 4-36 month olds and she ate all the tin but half an hour later took at least 5 oz of milk so surely it didn't fill her up enough even though it was a whole tin?

I would just leave it just now then until she gets better with water in the beaker - there really is no rush and she will get there in the end. There is no right and wrong, you just have to find what works for you and her.

Thank you for your advice :-)

I think those baby porridge is a rip off. I don't cook porridge myself so always have used weetabix and ready brek. But any old porridge oats would do if you aren't as lazy as me!

As for cups. I started giving DD a cup of water from 6mo. It took her till 10mo before drinking large volumes from it. Don't worry if your little one didn't click straight away. Keep trying and they will get it. Have you met a toddler who can't drink from a cup? They just need lots of practice. The recommendation is switch at 1yo and I believe unless the child has other developmental problems, there is no reason they can't learn a cup.

I use this free flow cup. Very cheap, available everywhere. And DD at 3yo still uses them. They are hard plastic so it is actually still the same set of cups she had since 6mo! I don't believe any of the soft sippers would last this long

Obviously she can use an open cup at the table now. But I don't like her wandering around with an open cup of drink.

They also do toddler sippers with the same spout for when your little one is older. DD uses this one when out

I mean your LO is only 8mo. Still 4mo to go and no reason she couldn't get it by then. Agree until she can do water well in the cup, you don't have to switch her milk feeds to it.

Hi

We tried with the first one in your link but she didn't really understand and just kept chomping the sip bit so instead we bought this one

she understood it better although still took her a few weeks til she actually understood how to drink from it. I might try the other one again when she's better at drinking from this one but at the minute I'm just happy she's drinking something from a beaker lol

The first cup is free flow so is harder to get. The water pours out if you tip it over. But they will get it in the end don't worry. I think sip cups are fine too for teeth? It is all just about practise. Don't worry about taking longer to get it. She still gets a lot of liquid from her bottles.

By the way at 3, DD still doesn't understand straw beakers. She turns those sports bottles with straws upside down and obviously that doesn't work as the bottom of the straw no longer sits in the water. It is so funny to watch Grin. However she can drink out from a straw in a glass when eating out. Or a pack of juice. She can't do sports bottle just because she doesn't have one to practise on. If you see what I mean? It's not because she would be incapable if she's given the chance to practise.
