Starting to give more solid food.

My DD will officially be 6 months old this coming weekend. I've been giving her purées for about 3/4 weeks now (carrot, sweet pot, butternut squash, avocado, various fruit) and I want to start moving on to more solid things, but i don't know where to start!

She usually has puréed fruit for her breakfast, and puréed veg for dinner later on. I'd like to start giving her lunch too. I fancy doing a mixture of spoon feeding and BLW now, so she can explore different textures etc. and try to feed herself.

What sort of finger foods should I try? Am I right in thinking she can now have dairy products at 6 months?

I'd be keen on giving her the same as we eat, but I don't know if she sort of things we have are suitable. I generally eat low carb so plain yoghurt and fruit for breakfast, salad for lunch and meat/veg for dinner (usually stir fry, chicken curry with roasted veg, fish pie with mashed swede instead of potato etc). Of course I can buy in different foods for her as I know she needs a balance of all the food groups.

Please help! It's very new and scary for me Grin

I'd try to stick to just the 2 meals for now. The nhs recommend moving to 3 meals between 8 and 9 months.

Yes, she can have dairy and yes she can have your food just check she's not having too much salt.

How about trying her with ready brek mixed with fruit purée or blueberry pancakes (which are freezable) or just a banana split lengthways for breakfast? Plain yogurt is good but I would recommend having whole fat yoghurt for dd.

For her evening meal, things like fish pie, strips of meat with roasted veg, stir fry etc are all good.

If you want to up the carbs for dd a little you could always bake some cheese straws and this pizza makes a very quick and easy meal Smile

Lovely! Thank you.

I will stick to the two meals for now. Didn't think of pancakes and stuff like that. I've got it in my head that she can only have fruit and veg for some reason Grin Thank you for the recipes, I'll have a look.

Just given her some cucumber sticks which she had a good go at! Took her a few minutes to realise what was happening though haha.

As you asked about dairy, thought you might like this article on foods to avoid Smile
