Organix Moon Biscuits for 8 months old???

Hi,
Does anyone know why Organix Moon Biscuits are recommended from 9 months? Is it because they are sweetened with grapefruit juice? I got a packet and was wondering if my DS, who is BLW, could try one? Also are they too sweet?
I'm trying to hold back on the sweet stuff coz I don't want him to develop a sweet tooth. My sis said this is pointless as DS would have already developed a liking to whatever I had when pregnant.. (lots of biscuits i'm afraid Please tell me this is not the case!!!!

they're just a bit crumblier/softer, if that's a word, I wouldn't say sweeter. They were easier for my dd to eat as she has so few teeth but she can manage the gingerbread now.

DelGirl · 04/09/2006 10:28

none of the organix range is that sweet imo

I think you can be a bit flexible about things like this - if he likes them, can manage them and is closely supervised I would go ahead.

I also had loads of cakes and biscuits when PG and DS has a sweet tooth - but then most small children do, so it's not conclusive. I think the worst thing you can do is ban sweet foods because then they'll acquire forbidden allure. I just let DS have very small amounts of sweet things and he's starting to understand and accept (at 15 months) that when I say no more that's it.

archiesmummy, my dd has been enjoying the moon biscuits for the last few months now, no problem. she's nearly nine months. (they are a bit messy though).

I have been giving these to dd for a couple of months too and she is 8mths.

merrily · 04/09/2006 23:08

I think they put from 9 months because they are quite crumbly so there is a risk of choking? They are just covering themselves. If you are doing BLW anyway I shouldn't think there would be any problem.

They aren't really sweet at all. Actually they are very bland - but my DD loves them, and they are definitely preferable to HobNobs (her other favourite biscuit!)

misdee · 04/09/2006 23:12

they sort of melt like rusks, but are better IMO. easier for little hands to hold.

bobsmum · 04/09/2006 23:17

I'm sure it's a choking hazard thing too - Organix are very good with their labelling and there's definitely no ingredient that wouldn't be suitable - must be the texture, like merrily said.

archiesmummy, human beings have a naturally sweet tooth....in evolutionary terms it makes sense because it was what our ancestors zillions of years ago developed over millennia in order to avoid sour/poisonous foods which tend not to be sweet. Breastmilk is naturally sweet (with lactose). The diet-in-pregnancy thing is a theory which posits that babies-in-utero (and breastfeeding babies) get an inkling of the tastes of the family diet to prepare them for their later foods. I think it's going a step too far to say that whatever is eaten in pregnancy means the baby's tastes are permanently fixed.

Now we know that too much added sugar is bad for teeth and health , it's good parenting to make sure a baby enjoys a range of foods so he doesn't get fixated on sweet and sugary things. It's not 'pointless' to do so

Thank you all for your help. Broadband was down last couple of days so not been able to check.
I like your reply, tiktok, and this could be the reason DS seems to love spaghetti..

A bit off topic, but just to let you all know DS started crawling 1 and a half week ago.... , and I've never felt so proud in my life before I think
