Baby not interested

We are on week 4 of weaning and my DD is not really interested. She has got a cold which may be part of it but just wondering if anyone else has experienced this?

She has particularly enjoyed her banana porridge previously but even that she's not that fussed with.

I have been doing a mix of spoon feeding an BLW and with the BLW she's not that bothered bout feeding herself. It seems she'd rather me hold the food for her, which surprises me actually as with other things she's quite determined to do things herself.

You don't say how old your DD is. 6 months is the guideline for start with solids, but doesn't mean that she is actually ready for it. Some are before and others are after this period. It is only an introduction and like everything else, she just may not be interested in it...yet. If doing BLW, just keep putting the food in front of her and let her play. Her main source should still be BF or Formula. You may or may not be doing this, but try eating with her and not worry if she doesn't do it. My DD just put her hands in the porridge until one day she put it in her mouth. It was messy but really enjoyable for her... Having a cold may not help either. Learning a new skill while feeling ill is rubbish, even for us. Just keep it fun and when she is feeling better you may find her interest changes.

When babies are ill, they do go off food. I don't think you should worry too much

Definitely the cold will be putting her off at the mo.

With BLW, the point is to just keep offering the food and not worry about what your baby does with it. If you pick the food up for her she won't learn (or want to learn) how to pick it up and eat it herself.

If you are only 4 weeks into weaning, and not doing BLW at every meal, it will take your DD a while to become interested and start to try and eat. It really will help if you eat your food at the same time to model it for her.

It's a bit of a long patient process, is BLW, so keep offering and you'll get there.

Could it be teething as well? My baby seems to get less interested in food when his gums are sore. Personally I wouldn't worry about her not feeding herself as long as she's happy about taking food from a spoon / with you holding it

My 9 month old dd has only really started eating in the last few weeks. She was an adamant spoon refuser until very recently so we did blw and she really only played with everything for the first 6 weeks. Just because they say start weaning at 6 months doesn't mean every baby will eat then, they do it in their own time. As long as milk is still accepted I wouldn't worry, just keep offering food and she will start to get it.
