BLW baby keeping food in mouth for ages

I am doing BLW with my 7 month old, it is going well, she loves to eat everything. The only problem is that after she has been sitting in the high chair eating for a while she usually starts to fuss, if I take her out and sit her on my knee she is happy to carry on- am not sure what that's about.

The other thing is that often she will end up with some pieces of food in her mouth, bits of cucumber/ a piece of meat/ or bread or something stuck to the roof of her mouth. She doesn't seem to spit it out or swallow it but just keeps moving it around in her mouth. I usually encourage her to spit it out or lay her face down on my knee to try and get her to spit it out but sometimes I have had to pull it out with my finger as she starts to fall asleep or needs to bf.

What should I do in this case? She doesn't seem to be distressed by the food being in her mouth but as I said sometimes it has to come out!

Hi! My DS is almost 10 months but he is / has been similar - keeping food in mouth for ages.

In our case, I thinl he is just distracted and literally forgets to chew - nosey baby.

He also had a problem of not chewing food properly before swallowing and than gagging on it.

What seems to have sorted it is, miraculously, a change of high chair. The one we had previously I hated anyway because vomit got everywhere and had to be hosed down to clean properly was too cosy I think - despite sitting well, DS tended to slumb and get to comfy just watching the world go round.

We changed highchair this weekend (we bought the cheap one from a big Swedish furniture store... ) and DS is sitting more upright, more chewing, less gagging / spitting. The chair seems to keep him more awake and engaged.

Just a thought... this may be sth to think about!
