Can someone take a look and let me know if this feeding schedule is about right for 8mo DS?

DS is nearly 8 months and we are doing a mix of baby led and spoon feeding. We began weaning at 5 months on advice of the paediatrician because he was prem/had IUGR. He's climbed to 25th percentile. He's starting nursery in a few weeks and I'm keen to replace his daytime breastfeeds with snacks, but worried that he won't be getting enough milk/fluid. Would anyone mind telling me if the following seems appropriate (all times approximate!)? He isn't great at drinking water from his cup at the moment.

7am breastfeed
8am breakfast - toast, porridge made with milk and water and fruit puree or natural yoghurt and fruit puree (roughly an adult pot's worth)
11am snack (currently a breastfeed, would be something like oatcakes and hummus, sticks of cheese)
12.30 lunch - some finger foods (eg roasted veg, omelette pieces), followed by a meal, e.g., lamb with sweet potato and prunes
3pm snack (currently a breastfeed)
5.30 dinner - as lunch, maybe with a 'pudding' (eg natural yoghurt and fruit puree)
7pm breastfeed
12 - 2am breast or bottle feed (if bottle, he takes about 180ml)

So that would be 3 x milk feeds, 3 x meals and 2 x snacks, down from 5 x milk feeds and 3 x meals.

Thanks in advance

That seems quite a lot for a baby but my dd is 8yo not 8mo so am struggling to remember how much she ate!!

Will he take a bottle at nursery? I would think he would still need a couple of milk feeds during the day but otherwise think your routine sounds fine.

It does seem like a lot for an 8 month old, although it depends on your portion sizes. Also, do you mean for breakfast he has toast OR porridge OR yoghurt?

For lunch and dinner, could you offer finger foods that are part of the meal rather than extra/different?

Is he self-feeding all his food, or is he just self feeding the finger food? If he is self feeding everything, does it seem like much is going in?

There's nothing wrong with your routine in terms of timings etc, and you may find he is fine at nursery with just water with his meals. Does he drink water with his meals at the moment?

Thanks for the feedback, yes it does seem like a lot written down! he is possibly playing catch up having had a low birth weight. The paeds didn't want us to do any BLW but just purées, but I'm trying to do both.

He has toast fingers to self feed at breakfast, manages roughly two, then is spoon fed yogurt OR porridge. He likes to put the spoon in his mouth himself. We have gone by the general rule of stopping whenever he loses interest, but he has a big appetite it seems.

He has water with/between meals but doesn't take much in. Given his big meals maybe no snacks or day time milk feeds are necessary?

I would think he would be ok at nursery without milk feeds, as he is a good eater and will have a go at water. He might just want to breastfeed more in the afternoon/evening after nursery.

Thanks so much for the replies, will try him without the daytime milk to start and if he ends up feeding more in the night we can reinstate.

Would be really interested to know how you get on dropping milk feeds, as I am considering doing the same thing in a couple of weeks time- but don't want him to start waking at night again!
