I'm looking for tips and ideas of what to buy now I have started weaning my 6mo, he is still being breast fed.

I'm trying to prevent buying the gimmicky bits but I am an excitable new mum, looking for advice from experienced weaners.

We have a high chair.. That's it really

Interested in whether flexi tipped spoons are worth it, are branded better ?
Any particular bowls
On the go feeding?
Beakers which are best?
Freezing and storing solutions
Food preparation bits?
Those sucky mats
Best bibs? I really hate the rubbery catchy things, but will buy if they are a good idea
Oh and actual food/snacks

Anything I may have missed?
Also, Where to get the best deals will help too ie supermarket, amazon or boots.

Thanks in advance

This is our list of what got used all the time at that stage...

Tiny diner mat - makes the clean up easier
Tommee Tippee sippy cups
Bibs - we bought Bibetta long sleeved (easily washable and quickly driable) but if you want wipe-clean I think JoJo do some?
Ikea green-lidded tupperware
Cot-bed sheets to go under the high chair (other ideas are a washable shower curtain or newspaper)

Then after a few months...
cake fork
cheap knife (our normal ones are too heavy - cheap=light)

Spoon - we used teaspoons.
Bowls - we didn't use for several months (food came to the table in Ikea tupperware) but now we've got a picnic set

(we're BLW btw in case it matters)

That's a good point about serving in the storage pots. Makes sense and less washing up

Cheap shower curtain or dog for the floor. A couple of sippy cups and we got done very cheap freezer pots with lids from Wilkos. Long sleeve bibs can be good when you are offering things like spag Bol.

Don't think we had anything else Smile

Yes, get some shallow spoons, brand unimportant.

Little plastic pots with lids are good for taking food out with you. And you'll never regret buying them - there are a hundred uses for little plastic pots after the weaning stage is over.

The NHS recommend that you get non-valve sippy cups (mine are from Tommee Tippee) so I did. It might be a lifestyle thing, but I've never felt that there should have been a valve. A spill is a spill, I wasn't really giving her drinks on my Persian carpet. Or at least, if she wanted one there I could give water.

Actual food/snacks. Pureed carrot. Cooked carrot sticks. Pears. Grated pears. Grated apple. Yogurt. Grated apple stirred into yogurt. Porridge. Most charming handbag snacks are the Plum ones, I think.

Never needed a catchy-thing bib Smile. I used a set of John Lewis long sleeved bibs which seemed to do the job.

Thought you might like this thread. Forgot to mention that my dd went totally bonkers if we ever tried to spoon feed her. She went from finger foods to cutlery Smile
