Dairy free 1 year old weaning off bottle?

My 1 year old has a dairy allergy. I have just been told we will have to remain on a dairy free diet until 18 months (we didn't get a diagnosis until 9 months as she was exclusively breastfed). She will be prescribed Nutramigen up to this point. I keep reading I should be weaning off the bottle, is there any point until we stop Nutramigen? How many feeds should a 1 year old have? She has 3 meals a day. We feed her soy youghurt, she has a small amount of soy milk in her porridge every morning but she hates soy cheese (don't blame her).

Not sure on this one sorry. Personally I'd keep her on the bottle for a while, you seem to have enough dealing with the DF diet. As long as she isn't allowed to use the bottle as a soother or go to sleep with it, she should be ok.

As for her diet, have you seen a Paed Dietician? Things like 50/50 bread and. Ready Brek are both fortified. Almonds are high in calcium, maybe try smooth almond butter on slices of apple or toast? Dried figs are high too and make a good snack or you could chop and add to the ready brek.

Tinned sardines on toast are good as is tinned salmon with the bones. You could us it to make fish cakes, add to pasta or just make a sandwich.

I know that if she was moving onto cows milk its 300ml per day between 1 and 2, don't know if it is different for nutramigen. Have you tried the allergy board?

Sorry if you knew this all already Smile

I've seen the dietician but that was mostly to discuss her current diet which they seemed happy with. They said up to 1 year I needed to ensure she had x3 bottles (7oz each) a day to ensure she got all the vitamins etc she needed but couldn't remember the amount beyond a year. I feed her cod and tuna a lot, haven't tried salmon or sardines yet. She also has peanut butter but not almond, the figs are a good tip, thanks! She doesn't fall asleep on the bottle ever so that's not an issue. I have the yearly check up with the health visitor on Thursday so she might be able to help (not holding out much hope). To be honest I find fitting in 3 bottles and 3 meals in 12 hours quite difficult so it would be convenient if I dropped the afternoon bottle, I might try that.

Think that tuna is only recommended once a week due to the traces of heavy metals it may contain. Could you ask your HV for another Paed Dietician appointment?
