Breakfast ideas for (nearly) 7 mth old

I only start breakfast a few days ago & DS loves his weetabix but I was after some other cereal ideas so he doesn't get bored of it but all the baby cereals seem to have added sugar which I'd like to avoid (OK so I know weetabix does too but it's a miniscule amount & I'd rather not have sugar in every cereal)
TIA

Hi there, baby oats from Farley's, Creamy porridge (rice and oats) from Hipp, Oatabix! I alternate these with a different fruit puree from organix, frutapura.

If he is ok with bits you can try baby muesli. Mine doesn't like bits that he didn't put in his mouth by himself so I'ce skipped that one.

I didn't bother with breakfast till ds was about 8mo.

Then, we both had porridge and I mixed some pureed fruit or raisins or similar into his.

v cheap, though possibly not quite as convenient as jars...

Auntymandy · 25/08/2006 11:11

ready brek

Iklboo · 25/08/2006 11:16

Quick question - DS is nearly 10 months, a good "chewer". When can we start giving him raisins as finger food?

CantSleepWontSleep · 25/08/2006 13:15

Organix first cereals don't have any added crap in them.

bumbleweed · 27/08/2006 20:21

Kallo do organic breakfast cereals like rice crispies which have no added sugar or salt and are just made of pure brown rice.

My dd likes them dry, she picks up handfuls and manages to get some in her mouth or just picks up idividual ones - she is 10m.

Or we give just chopped up fruit - apple, pear, banana.

Toast with mashed banana or melted cheese.

Iklboo - You should be able to try the raisins now. My 8 and a half month old managed to pick them up from his tray and eat them for the first time yesterday. And that was with his fist, he hasn't developed a pincer grip yet.

have ds 6mths and he loves banana mashed with warm milk and bit of baby rice to thicken. (tastes v.nice actually as i tried a bit that he had rasberried onto me)!
Pinhead oatmeal porridge is good.

We used to have Readybrek or fine milled porridge with banana mashed into it, also apple grated into it and if you soak dried apricot overnight in water you can chop them to a pulp and add them. Also used to love eggy bread a bit later on.

Agree with Auntymandy - Readybreak, plus mashed banana. Cheap, easy, filling - no added sugar. I think Weetabix has sugar and salt in it (I have this every morning!)

Toast and vegemite is also tasty, bit salty but good (maybe for older babies?)

Auntymandy · 28/08/2006 07:23

I wouldnt use weetabix till they are older because of salt, look at shops own as well as they appear to have less salt than the real thing!
