Heinz/Cow & Gate Baby "Cereals"

Hi, wonder if anyone could help? I live abroad but was back over the weekend and thought I'd try dd3 (6+ months) on some of the breakfast cereals - heinz and cow & gate - which you cannot get here. Silly old moo that I am, took all the packets out of the boxes then chucked the boxes so I've no idea how I'm supposed to mix them up! Does anyone use these and if so, would you mind letting me know what the mixing instructions are? I've got the Heinz oats & apple, creamy oat porridge and fruit & yogurt, and the Cow & Gate Sunshine banana and apple and blueberry. I'll be very grateful if you can help me out (and so will dd3! - she's fed up of pureed fruit for brekkers!)

I think you just mix with a little bit of milk until you get the required consistency - runnier for young babies, thicker as they get more used to texture. My DD never liked these packet mixes - hopefully you will have more luck!

just add milk or water and mix the child can either have them hot or cold which ever they preffer and what ever consistance they prefer.

My 4month old loves these as I used as alternative to baby rice nwhen first strarted to wean. Directions on packet are
C&G Sunshine Banna 1tsp powder to 6 milk,
C&G Creamed porridge is 1tsp powder to 5 water,

but can just make it to what consistency your child likes. Mine loves both made with her milk and really stodgy consistency. I also add pureed fruit to porridge (apples & bannas are fav) to add some variety.

Can I use full fat milk to mix it up, or does it have to be formula?

Hi Kando;

According to my boxes Heinz boxes on all that you mentioned: 30g (app 6 level tablespoons) porridge to 90ml (6 tablespoons) warm previously boiled water. You can adjust the consistancy.

Cow's milk is fine after 6 months.

Can't help with Cow and Gate.

Mum2FunkyDude · 29/08/2006 09:39

I also give oatabix and weatabix with cow's milk.

I think the confusion is that you should not replace formula with cow's milk as the iron content is to low!

Mum2FunkyDude · 29/08/2006 09:40

That is as a drink, on food and sauces cow's milk is fine. Should always be full fat until about 2 years old.

Great, thanks Mum2FunkyDude (love the name!!)

Thanks Kando (about the name) where in the world are you?

Chloe55 · 29/08/2006 10:55

Hi Kando! I use full fat milk to whatever consistancy ds likes - I also add banana as it sweetens it up (which I know isn't nec but he likes it and gets his vitamins this way). I have also given him weetabix/readybrek/oatsosimple - if your dd is over 6mths (which iirc she is older than ds so muct be) then you don't have to give her the baby cereals she can have most adult cereals too.

I live in Holland, Mum2FD. Been here just over a year now. You'd be amazed at how bloomin awful the choice of baby food is over here - that's why I bought in bulk when I was back in the UK! Breakfast cereals for babies is just non-existant unless you count plain baby rice or vanilla babyrice - which would not impress dd in the slightest!

Hi Chloe55 - yes, she's 7 months on the 3rd Sep - can you believe just how quickly the time has gone by?! All the worries and stress of being pg taken over by weaning and teething now!
