I need inspiration. DS2 seems to exist on cooked veg sticks, plain rice cakes, toast and breadsticks.

He hates purees.

Scrambled egg or omelette. Plain yoghurt with purée swirled through or chopped ripe or poached fruit. Ripe melon or berries, bananas. Cheese. You could also try some minced meat like beef or turkey and maybe some mashed potato?

My fussy 8mo shuns most purees but will eat small bits of chicken, fish and little piles of grated cheese.

Gerty1002 · 22/04/2014 16:28

7mo DS is pretty much the same as blueberrybaby DC. Also loves weetabix, cheese sandwiches, ripe strawberries, tomato and cucumber, pasta and pesto. He also loves vegetable fritters and low sugar apple and oat muffins. I usually head to My Lovely Little Lunchbox blog for inspiration... sorry I can't link as on mobile app.

I'm lucky that he's happy to be spoon fed also.

AntiDistinctlyMinty · 22/04/2014 16:35

Cheese, chicken, crumpets, scrambled eggs, anything with carrot in it, risotto. He also likes his purees though, so we're lucky that we can try him on different finger foods along side and know it doesn't matter if he won't eat any of it...

A pretty similar scenario here, but he loves veg roasted with cumin and coriander, and slices of melon and mango. Very little interest in carbs or protein of any kind so far. Watching with interest!

I've recently discovered pasta spirals are a big hit here. I got some large green ones and start to cook them a few minutes before adding in regular penne for me and dh. Stir in some sauce with squashy veg (he loves courgette) and then fish out his pasta from the pan before serving - saves on the washing up!

Toasted crumpets with unsalted butter and jam are sometimes wolfed down too. And tortilla wraps are useful too for making quesadilla strips or even cutting into circles and grilling in a bun tray with beef chilli and cheese (bit like jam tarts!). I add a dollop of guacamole or sour cream and he manages to hold and eat them pretty well.

Fav here is, cauliflower, broccoli and pasta spirals all boiled together with a spoon of soft cheese stirred through!
Another big win is cheese and corn beef mini pancakes (thick pancake batter using sr flour add greeted cheese and some mushed up corn beef. Tablespoon size dollop in a frying pan for few mins (great to take out and about too)
Also peas, sweetcorn and purple sprouting broccoli.

It's the mess that gets me! !

Sticks of cheese, cucumber and banana go down well here. Bits of chicken or fish too. Eggy bread is a big favourite, as is yoghurt with fruit purée stirred in.

CleanAllOfTheThings · 25/04/2014 09:34

Mine loves cauliflower cheese, crumpets and toast with cream cheese, houmous, sticks of cheese, plums, pear, tomatoes, celery, cucumber, roasted sweet potato and parsnip. Oh and sucking sauce of pasta twists. Tried a bit of steamed fish and she liked that the other day.

She doesn't seem to really like mash textures very much.

Gonna try eggy bread for her lunch! She's not been a big egg fan so far.

BiffBaffBuduff · 25/04/2014 13:26

YY to omelette, cheddar, veg fritters, yoghurt with purée, bakes sweet potato with spices - and weird really strong tasting things like big gherkins Hmm and feta!

Check out www.littlegrazers.com for some good ideas & recipes...

I 'll add choc spread sandwiches to the list DS2 eats. A picnic in the living room and the temptation of DDs sandwich appeared too much for him! Big chocolate grin though.

Not got a baby anymore but when my dd was that age her favourites were roast dinner, ready brek with chopped banana, roast veg and ham sandwiches, oh and anything with fish in it.

When, like you, I was stuck for inspiration I borrowed this book from our local library. Since then I've found this website, seen this book recommended on MN lots and have also found the MN weaning recipes.

Both of mine were very fond of cheese straws, in fact they still are Smile

Cakeismymaster · 05/05/2014 14:20

Re the pasta spirals - if they haven't got any teeth can they still chew them? As have visions of them going into the mouth whole and causing immediate gag/sick..my dd is 7.5 mths exactly. She likes toast and pancakes but can still gag when she puts too much in and I haven't been brave enough for breadsticks yet.
