Stock and BLW

Hi, I have recently started BLW and today I am making up a load of beef and chicken stock to use in cooking. It takes more than 3 hours to do this, I am hoping there will be enough to last for a few meals if I freeze it, but this seems very time consuming. I was wondering how you would freeze it, in what quantities and what kind of containers and if you are doing BLW how often do you make stock? I usually use stock in quite a lot of recipes but I guess that will have to change! I also live overseas and cannot buy low salt ones etc.

I freeze it in ice cube trays - boiled until it is very condensed first and strain off the fat as well, easiest way for that I find is to pour it all into a large pot in the fridge then scrape of the fat that has risen to the surface then pour the remaining stock in the trays. Once frozen I pop them all out into a freezer bag to take up less space.

Great, thanks and do you use it then like stock cubes? As in 1 cube with a pint of water?

If you're going to use it for baby friendly family meals as opposed to just babys food I would maybe freeze in 250ml quantities as it will only be as concentrated as made up stock as opposed to the cube iyswim.

Do you have a slow cooker? I have just bought one and plan to do stock overnight in it and freeze in water tight beakers.

Ahh yes that's what I was planning to do, I thought it would be a bit tasteless if I diluted it. Slow cooker is a good idea, I haven't got one but I wanted to get one anyway as I'm sure it would be useful.

They are a godsend. If there's an argos near you there are a couple of Morphy Richards ones on offer - I went for the gigantic 6.5L as it was only £21! Five star reviews and so far I absolutely love it. Have done bolognase, rice pudding and pulled pork in the few days since I bought it.

I also spent ages making stock then discovered you can buy baby stock cubes that don't have salt in them.x
