Cheese - is it too salty?

Someone just told me that cheese is too salty to give to babies. Is this true? Lots of the recipes in my baby cookbooks use cheese. So far my baby has already had edam, mild cheddar, cottage cheese and cream cheese. He's 8 months old and been having dairy for about 2 months. He really loves cheese. Are there any salt-free or lo-salt cheeses?

I've been wondering about this too but have decided that I would rather give "natural" organic cheddar than processed granules. Ds is 6 1/2 months and get cheese a couple of times a week

Scotgirl - since I started this thread, I've now found Little Dish Cheese Sauce. Its got no added salt or other additives. There's also a Tomato Sauce in this brand. And Fromage Frais which my little one loves.
I do still give him cheddar, cottage cheese and cream cheese. He loves cheese on toast.

Hello I give my dd edam cheese and think that's meant to be one of the better cheese's to give lo's. Might be worthwhile checking out the salt content and comparing it with other cheese's.

Thanks EmilyLou. My little one loves Edam, but just taken a look at the wrapper and seen it has an E number. I've got my fingers crossed that perhaps thats in the bright red skin, rather than the cheese itself. Never thought to look at a cheese wrapper and he must have eaten Edam loads of times.
