i was only on a 30-day trial and it just vanished, which it wasn't supposed to do. anyway, the good thing is that i've moved it to... ta-dah...

here

or otherwise known as www.babyledweaning.com

WHO can believe that domain name wasn't already taken?

aitch71ababe · 10/08/2006 22:43

Thank God! I've recommended it to other mners.

Dd2 is 6 months today - so am going to start blw soon. [smile

vitomum · 11/08/2006 11:49

whish this had been here 18 months ago when i was in puree / ice cube hell

littlepiggie · 11/08/2006 21:27

i would like to try blw when ds is 6 months, what foods should i start with?

FrannyandZooey · 11/08/2006 21:38

Aitch, I wanted to add a comment on how beautiful and inspiring the site is looking but it foxed me I am afraid

It is lovely though, and fantastic that you got that domain

aitch71ababe · 11/08/2006 21:49

is this the comments thing F&Z? how weird, hub2dee and a friend of mine said the same thing... i am going to join as someone else right now to see what it's like (as the administrator obviously i don't get to see what everyone else sees...)
you don't use a mac, do you, by any chance?

OP posts:
FrannyandZooey · 11/08/2006 21:52

Yup, I signed up and everything (tbh that was a little on the hard side too)

sorry if it is not just me then, but I suppose it's better to know

FrannyandZooey · 11/08/2006 21:52

And no, I don't use a Mac.

aitch71ababe · 11/08/2006 22:01

hi littlepiggie.
a lot of people start with things like carrot, which was the second food we tried (if you look in the finger foods section of the blog you will see the whole, undoubtedly tedious, story ).

however, the first food DD tried was a peach, because i was eating it and she grabbed it (also detailed in glorious technicolour in finger foods section...). and you know, the more i think about it, the more i think that was a real stroke of luck...

so if i was doing it again i wonder if what i would do would be to wait til 6 months, sit baby on lap and then eat delicious, soft things like peach or banana or nectarine or whatever, and see if the baby makes a move for it. because i have definitely observed with my dd that if she appears to be losing interest in a particular food on her highchair table and i eat it, her interest is once again piqued.

i don't think it really matters what you start with, but if it isn't fruit then i would advise steaming it until it is really quite soft. they really don't eat much to begin with, so you're just trying to let them get their head round the fact that at some point they will stop smuching it into their faces and actually start swallowing.

good luck, BLW is a total laugh, my dd loves it when we all eat together (not that i'm one for a steamed carrot, you understand. bleh).

and try not to freak out about the gagging. in fact, go on an infant resus class at your local hospital if you can so you will feel lovely and confident about everything gag-tastic.

creating a reader account is weird, isn't it? did you have to basically start again once it had been created and just type in www.babyledweaning.com before it brought up a log-in?

but the comments thing was absolutely fine for me, no problem. the only slight possibility of a difficulty came because for some reason you have to scroll up the page to find the box where you type into, but i take it that wasn't what flummoxed you.

if you can check that out then i will forward the issue to the blogware people. who, i suspect, won't give a sh** but it's worth a try...

many thanks for bringing that to my attention and for very nearly leaving a lovely comment. it is, after all, the thought that counts.

Aitch, from memory, it was when I pressed 'post' after composing the comment. It said I had to log in (I already had) and when I logged in once more and tried it all over again, it happened again and I gave up

aitch71ababe · 11/08/2006 22:36

well, that shouldn't happen. but it does sound similar to something my pal said. i'm emailing them, sorry about that.

FrannyandZooey · 12/08/2006 06:28

No, I'm sorry, I feel like I am picking holes in it now.

I love it though, I wish I had known you when I was weaning ds

aitch71ababe · 12/08/2006 13:19

now, if you were complaining about the grammar and writing therein i could see your point, but i didn't design the software so i've nothing to take personally. i'd rather know about any funkinesses so i can make the guy at the helpdesk's life a leetle more miserable...

littleducks · 12/08/2006 14:17

yippee! , i was so disappointed when it disappeared, three months to go before i wean dd but love the info you provide, especially since all the other mums in my antenatal group are hosting puree parties and buying baby rice in anticipation of next month.

littlepiggie · 13/08/2006 19:09

thanks aitch, had a look but was just a bit unsure where to start, i do like the idea of blw, it is something me and dh had talked about doing, although had never heard of blw (wanted food to be fun) did not know they could have finger foods,so was going to give sloppy foods and let him play.

JennT · 13/08/2006 21:40

Littlepiggie it's so much fun! I have to admit to giving the odd spoonful, but watching dd put big chunks of strong cheeses and garlicy and chillie foods is brill.

littlepiggie · 13/08/2006 21:43

CHILLI?????????????????????????
garlic yes but CHILLI???????????
what about there poor bottoms?

JennT · 13/08/2006 21:56

Oh no solid poo is fab! (When you're using fabric nappies). You will - seriously you will - be inspecting nappies by the way til they turn solid and you KNOW they're eating.

Chillie is FINE as long as it's not too strong and they don't rub their eyes. After all you don't eat bland food. Not putting salt in food means major taste bud adjustment, (and we hardly used any).

littlepiggie · 13/08/2006 22:29

Got both, still think poor bottoms

JennT · 13/08/2006 22:35

Think of it as training!

littlepiggie · 13/08/2006 22:41

lol
oh well, needs to learn, for when he has those drunken curries in a few years time

aitch71ababe · 14/08/2006 01:46

my dd likes chilli too, but i tend to do a bit of a nigella and cut down on chillis and add more cloves and cardamom. also, a top tip is to use dried chilli flakes rather than fresh chilli as i once was cutting a chilli, washed my hands, picked up dd and somehow stuck my finger in her eye, which proceeded to water for about the next half an hour. poor wee thing.
