Yes it's fine, no sugar or salt or any nasties. If you have a microwave (I say if cause I don't) then making it is a cinch too.

Are you sure about salt Clary?

i seem to remember readybrek being dangerous for babies and a baby dying from too much readybrek as there was so much salt in it!

Maybe porridge oats and banana would be better.

No collision you are thinking of weetabix (and that was a baby weaned at 3mo and also onto adult gravy etc).

"Ready brek is packed full of nutritious oats which give an energy boost at breakfast time to help you do the things you like doing for longer. Simply fortified porridge oats finely milled and ideal for children. " (from the weetabix site)

Tho weetabix is fine for a 7mo too.

OK. Sorry!!

Clary · 07/08/2006 00:08

sorry that last post sounded a bit schoolmarmy, didn't it!

no, no, not at all.

Would have hated to give wrong advice. If someone knows more about something then you are right to say it.

Clary, the situation you are thinking of was one in which Ready Brek was indeed mentioned at the inquest (there may have been another with weetabix as well).

The baby was three months old, and was given instant gravy granules and IIRC instant mashed potato as well. The manufacturers of Ready Brek went mental, understandably, as there is nothing wrong with RB for babies at all, given at an appropriate age (over 6 mths, as with all solids) and alongside other foods including milk. But a three month old baby given this instead of milk will dehydrate, because the system cannot cope with it. There's no added salt.

this is the story and it happened seven years ago....interesting how people remember stuff.

I knew I was right!!!!!!!

blimey tiktok, that's the one I was thinking of too (I even remembered the baby's name was Leroy).

I honestly thought it was weetabix, which would make more sense, after all, since there is no salt in ready Brek. No wonder the makers went mad.Stupid coroner getting it round his neck.

Sorry collision see I don't know everything after all.
