Introducing finger food

So ds is nearly 7 months, weaning going well after a slow start, just giving baby different fruit and veg puréed so far, haven't started meat or fish yet, just wondering when should I introduce finger food and what it should be? Tia

Some ideas to try...

Wedges of soft fruit such as avocado, pear.
Banana (not too much though as can make them a bit constipated, my DD has a third to a half)
Sticks of steamed or boiled veg like carrot and parsnip
Broccoli florets
Strips of roasted pepper
Strips of omelette
Toast soldiers with butter or soft cheese

Enjoy :)

Don't worry, just treat it as play to start with, it doesn't matter how much actually gets eaten, its all a learning process.

I would give some of your usual puree first to satisfy the hunger and then offer a couple of bits of finger food for baby to explore. A good chunky bit of fruit is a good one to start with :)

I found broccoli good because it's big enough to clutch at but all they usually get into their mouths are the little bally hits at the top of the floret, which doesn't freak out the parents as a choking hazard. It'll take you a hit of time to get used to seeing them take pieces that are too big into their mouths, but they gag it up or spit it out.

I started to chunk up the purees I was giving first, and then once DD was handling food with a few more lumps ok, I started to give finger foods in addition to her main meal. So for example she will have a lumpy beef and potato stew or some very well cooked mini pasta shells with tomato sauce, and then after I will give her some sticks of food to try. Usually it's very ripe melon, banana or kiwi. Blueberries have been successful too. I cut them in half (never thought I would be doing that!) so they are slightly easier to grip. She also likes cheese which I cut into sticks, but I would wait a while on cheese as I found she needed to get good at the chewing/sucking otherwise it's hard to swallow. For breakfast she likes omelette strips or some toast fingers spread with banana or ripe avocado.
