This is interesting research to support introducing solid food to babies while maintaining breast-feeding. In summary:
• Don’t give babies solid food before 4 months as their gut is too immature and make promote allergic disease
• Giving solid foods at the same time as breastfeeding can benefit the immune system
• Introducing solid foods at 17 weeks is recommended
Article about the report in MTB Europe, January 2014: www.mtbeurope.info/news/2014/1401012.htm?goback=.gde_2308956_member_5829671259381723140#!
They have a website about early nutrition, long term effects of early nutrition on later health: www.project-earlynutrition.eu/html/en/public/news.html

Your title is misleading. It says after 17 weeks, not at 17 weeks. The main thrust is also about introducing solids alongside breastfeeding.

I think you are misinterpreting what the study is saying. It says not to introduce foods before 17 weeks and that it is best to introduce foods sometime after 17 weeks alongside breastfeeding.

17 weeks is the earliest solids can be introduced, but everyone should wait till 6 months, the early weaning at 17 weeks is for when babies arent gaining/are loosing weight. Although many people do wean then for some reason
