Weaning disrupting sleep. What should I do differently?

Hi all

DD is 6 months and I've been weaning the traditional way of puréed veg etc.

She seems to be liking it but I've noticed that she is harder to settle at bedtime the past few nights. Last night was the worst as she wriggled about for hours, even when I gave her the dummy she still struggled.

I've not dropped any milk feeds. Two nights ago I gave mixed veg and a little apple all puréed together. Last night I gave a purée of chicken and sweet potato. Gave both at 6pm, then she has her bath, bottle at 7:30 then bed at 8.

Does anyone know if it's common for weaning to affect their sleep?
Thanks in advance.

I've just started and give the food late morning so ds has time to 'process' it on the day and doesn't seem to be affecting him at night but has disturbed a few naps.

Could you give food at lunch instead?

Same as above - it's a good idea to give it early in the day so if they do get any kind of reaction like wind or upset tummy then it won't be in the middle of the night.
I found that naps (which weren't brilliant to start with) got worse on solids, especially once the number of meals gets increased because it never felt like there was time for a nap with the amount of food and milk being given!

Thanks both! Funny that, her naps were always rubbish too and it's getting harder to get her down nowadays!

I know, I'm just wondering how to get the time to wean her and make sure she takes her milk too!! She refused her dream feed for the first time ever last night. I eventually managed 2oz but I'm intrigued to see of she refuses it again tonight.. I didn't even give her that much solids yesterday, about 3 ice cubes worth, so I didn't think that would have made her too full for her DF!

I'm determined not to let this weaning malarkey stress me out!!! Grin

Ds sleep was disrupted a bit for the first few weeks of weaning but he quickly got used to it and went back to sleeping ok again. Better in fact - he started sleeping through from 7-6 once he was on 3 meals a day.

Ride it out and keep going your LO will get there. Agree maybe do lunch rather than dinner if you're only doing 1 meal...

I think if your little one is suffering from wind/digestion as s/he starts solids it might help to make sure only new foods earlier in day - in case of wind - and maybe only bland, cereal type foods at teatime.

I can personally vouch for NOT giving fresh beetroot purée just before bedtime in case of a violent reaction. Thankfully only one twin projectile vomited. All over herself. And me.
