7 month will only eat sweet food?

I started slowly weaning my soon at 4 months and he started great, loved the porridges and pureed fruit straight away. However he wont take nothing homemade like mash or carrots ect. The only thing he will eat is the ellas kitchen range of baby food and thats because they have apple and pear in them. Whenever I try to give him anything else he just screams till he gets what he wants. I realy want to get him off the sweet things as I dont think its a good way of going on. Any helpful tips or suggestions would be realy helpful.

At 7 months milk (bm or formula) should still be the main part of a baby's diet, so you needn't worry too much if your DS is not taking in much food. So, given that, I would start offering the food that you want him to eat, and nothing else. You are in control of the food that he has, not him. If he doesn't eat it, then that's fine, just offer the next meal as planned. As long as he is having the recommended amount of formula or plenty of breastfeeding opportunities then he will be absolutely fine.

He may well complain about what you are offering but you should persevere as it's important to offer a wide range of food. You could try giving a puree mix e.g. mix sweet things like apple/pear with savoury food, or you could try sweeter savoury things like carrot, parsnip, sweet potato etc. If those are accepted you could gradually move to more savoury mixes and flavours.

How is he with finger foods? Will he give things like a steamed broccoli tree a try? It's often a favourite with babies.
