My 11 month old has just methodically chucked everything I've given him onto the floor.

He has to be hungry.

What do you do?

Pick it up and give it back. We have a wipe clean floor which gets regularly cleaned and not walked on, so I reckon it's probably the cleanest surface in the house!

You could put a floor covering down (some people use shower curtains, or oilcloth type stuff, or newspaper), if you don't have suitable flooring or you don't like the idea of picking things up off the floor. Of course, if you have a dog then this is all irrelevant!

I would also prepare a little bit extra just in case any food thrown overboard was not recoverable.

Chucking food can be a sign that they have finished eating - certainly for my ds it was. I used to finish the meal if 2 or 3 things were chucked in a row.

Yes it's wooden/laminate wipe clean flooring so I do give it back, break a wee bit off & pop it in his mouth.
I know when he definitely doesn't want it.

I read that they need iron via food now so I worry he isn't getting any iron let alone food.

His nappies tell me he must be eating something though. It's a bit mysterious, a bit like bf, you just don't know how much they are getting do you?

It's fun to chuck stuff on the floor. My 12 month old chucks and then leans over the side to see if it has gone splat.

Try not to make a game of it, hand it back with no fuss. If he keeps chucking, end the meal. I know it's hard, but he will eat if he's hungry.

Try giving him opportunities to play at throwing at other times so that he can explore that skill at playtime and concentrate on eating at mealtimes.

HTH

If you are bfing don't worry too much about the iron thing unless he is showing signs of anaemia obviously Smile
