I know the WHO say no cows milk before age 1. But tonight he had spinach and potato bake with cheese in it, one of the Hipp Organic jars. I also read somewhere that dairy is very important when weaning your baby because calcium is easily depleted or something along with iron.

Why is cheese ok if milk isn't? I asked my mum and she said back when I was his age it from six months that cows milk was ok.

Just curious really. Weaning is fun isn't it.

cow's milk is fine from 6 months. but not as a main drink, it doesn't have all the vits and minerals that babies need.

He can, just not as his main drinking milk. Ie on cereal etc is fine, just not to be drinking vast quantities of it.

They can have cows milk in cereal and you can cook with it from 6 months. They can also have any other dairy, just not the milk. It is something to do with the processes that n

Cows milk is fine just not as a drink. Put in cereal, sauces and puddings from 6 months.

cows milk is fine in cereal, cooking, etc from 6 months but doesnt have sufficient nutrition to be the main milk drink until 1 year.

BertieBowtiesAreCool · 26/11/2013 20:24

What everyone else said - it's fine as a food, just not to replace their main drink :)

onedogandababy · 26/11/2013 20:24

They can have milk, just not as their main milk drink. It's not calorific enough prior to a year. Stick to breastfeeding or formula until a year.

I can remember thinking along similar lines until I concentrated on reading carefully!

EmpireBiscuit · 26/11/2013 20:25

...it goes through these days (to increase dates etc) stripping out the nutrients.

I seeeeee that makes a lot of sense now, so I could make up his breakfast porridge with it for example as long as I'm still either bf/ff him as normal? (I mix feed anyway)
