Thats it really. Just started weaning my almost 6mo ds, and a bit disturbed by the gagging. My heart is in my mouth every time. I know this is different from choking but I'd like to know how long it's taken other babies to get used to moving food round their months and stop the gagging please.
I really do think BLW is for us, it makes sense to me, ds seems really capable of getting food to mouth, plus I'm lazy, but think DH is sceptical.
So far ds had sticks of cucumber, sweet potato, avocado, carrot, and has sorted himself out after gagging.
it'd be great to hear other peoples experiences. Thanks!

DD was about a week then no gagging for months. She can now (14 months) be a bit blasé with food and often crams in way too much - cue coughing and gagging. Babies!

I found after a couple of months. But every baby is different.

The gag reflex is a lot more acute on a baby then on an adult. If anything goes near the back of their throat they gag in order to prevent them choking. Is it causing him distress? Or does he just carry on afterwards.

Thanks for your replies both. No, he seems fine once he's sorted himself out. The distress is completely on mine and his dad's part!
