New foods and flavours..

Hey,
My LO is 7 Months and I've been weaning her on all home made stuff so far, but it is all very basic.

I was going to introduce her to the new exciting flavours with Ella's as that would ensure I wasn't doing anything wrong but then I read this and now I'm unsure what to do

www.theguardian.com/lifeandstyle/shortcuts/2013/sep/10/truth-about-baby-food

So I was just wondering what I should do in relation to new foods and new flavours. I mean obviously its important, but should I attempt to develop my own or rely on Ella's etc? And just do my own basic stuff?

What does everyone else do and are there any mixtures of foods you can recommend?

Thanks :)

Give her your food! Whatever you're eating, so long as you don't add salt.

Or if you want 'baby' food, Annabel Karmel's baby and toddler meal planner book has loads of recipes.

Last night we had fajitas, so DD had (without the spicy sauce) chicken, strips of pepper, mushroom, and some cheese, with baby sweetcorn. If we have curry, she would have chicken, rice and some veg. Bolognese and the like we cook with baby stock cubes and no added salt and she has the same as us. She eats with her fingers. She's now 9 months, but we have been doing this for ages. It's so much easier to adapt what you're eating than cook a whole load of separate stuff, IMO. If we're having something completely unsuitable like dominos, she has an omelette.

We used ellas kitchen when we're out with ds1, just for ease, i recon every now and again wont do much harm. The annabel karmel book is so so good. Very simple and straightforward. Lots about nutrition too.

Think at that age its important to offer any solids roughly an hour after milk and to not offer solids more than twice a day. Then as long as you know the foods to avoid you'll be fine.

I think the article makes some very good points including that ready made, baby rice and puréed fruit and veg aren't always the best.

Are you giving just purees? Have you tried any finger good at all?

If you want to introduce new flavours could you try her with what you are eating? We are having carbonara for tea, I'm sure she'd love some of that or just see if your library has got this bookSmile
