Weetabix intolerance?!?!

Ds is 11m and has a great varied diet. No allergies or problems but every time he has weetabix he seems to bring a little up within an hour or two which smells like sour milk. I just wonder if he does this is it bothering him inside, or should we give him it once a week for him to get used to it?

I know it sounds a bit stupid, but surely someone else has experienced it? I just thought weetabix was such a plain food how can it not agree with him!?!?

If it's bothering him then I would cut it out for a month or two. Wheat is one of the most common poorly tolerated foods, and there's no point challenging the gut with it. At this age dd could not tolerate ordinary milk - whenever she had it, on cereal or otherwise, it used to bounce back up smelling sour within 20m or so. We cut out milk completely for a few months, and tried her out on it every 3-4m. Each time her reaction was less, and after about 24m she was able to tlerate it.

No idea! But if it seems to bother him, I think I'd just leave it. It's not as if weetabix is a real staple that you've just about got to have. (Once dated a bloke who would only eat powdered mashed potato. Definitely a social handicap, that!)

Thanks pc. He does not seem to react to any other food at all though, that's what makes me wonder about this one. He eats a great varied diet. Is weetabix particularly "concentrated" wheat, if there is such a thing?!

DS got a rash when eating weetabix. No idea why, has all the ingrediants that are in it in other foods with no probs. We cut it out and have been fine since.

bramblina · 10/07/2006 20:49

Have you introduced it again yet flossam? If you have, how long did you leave it for? Interesting that it's just weetabix. Hmmmm.

Is he OK with wholemeal bread?

Sometimes a person can be fine with something on its own, but combined with another has a reaction. When I had a problem with dairy (result of gastroenteritis and antibiotics), I foudn that I also had a problem with wheat, but once I cut out dairy from my diet, I could eat wheat without any problems. Perhaps it's the weetabix with milk that's the issue. At this age I would just cut that dish out of hsi diet for a few months.

He's only had w bread a couple of times but yes. I think we'll do as you say and give it a few months. Thanks for all your help and info. X

Weetabix didn't agree with DD when she was this age either bramblina!
She used to get a rash around her mouth every time she ate it. I stopped giving it to her (and avoided wheat in general) for about 6 months and gave her oat porridge instead
Weetabix is now her favourite brekkie (she is 2 and a half now)

Great! Thanks ghosty.
