I'm having a stupid day today. Is it just little pasta? Or is it made of something special? I've never seen it.

I saw some Peter Rabbit baby pasta in Boots about a year ago, tricoloured too with beetroot and seaweed (I think), cost a fortune too [completely baffled emoticon]

Greensleeves · 29/06/2006 19:03

Seems a shame to eat it, really - so pretty and all

Peter Rabbit pasta is shite. It falls apart when you cook it. Lots of decapitated bunnies bobbing around in a saucepan - not nice.

Greensleeves · 29/06/2006 19:07

PMSL

That'll learn you.

Snafu, totally agree.

A good part of it was broken before I even cooked it. Really expensive too

KathyMCMLXXII · 29/06/2006 19:10

LOL Snafu.
Sweetkitty, it sounds like you don't love your children enough

PandaG · 29/06/2006 19:21

Thanks for asking this question Greeny, I keep seeing references to baby pasta on mumsnet, and was never sure whether it was real, or an elaborate pisstake

Seona1973 · 29/06/2006 19:42

well, I never found tiny soup pasta locally but did resort to breaking spaghetti and chopping up cooked pasta shells, etc. I would have liked to use baby/soup pasta if I could have found it but sadly couldnt get hold of it.

Deyo · 29/06/2006 21:02

I know everyone I hunted around for ages looking for baby pasta and then found that Peter Rabbit stuff that I wouldn't even eat so why would I give it to my daugther!!!. I just used some normal pasta.. my DD loved it!!!.

Vivi36 · 29/06/2006 21:03

I've never seen soup pasta in any of the main supermarkets but went to a local Italian shop & was amazed - about a hundred different types of pasta and loads of tiny, tiny ones. Little tubes, flowers, bits like rice etc...
A bit disturbed to see pasta willys though....is this some Italian hen night tradition or something?

flutterbee · 29/06/2006 21:05

PMSL @ Bundles links, orange juice all over the computer now, thanks a lot.!!

Jellytots · 04/09/2006 17:04

I am confused I noticed some of you are giving you babys normal pasta, I though the idea of baby pasta, was that it was made of rice and is gluten and wheat free? I though you shouldnt give pasta until 9 months?

lazycow · 05/09/2006 10:43

Right - I did look for this when ds was a baby as Italians all wean their children on something called pastina or minestrina.

It is home-made chicken or beef stock with very small pasta cooked in it. You can get the samll pasta (same as normal pasta just very small) for minestrina or pastina as it is called all over Italy and I personally still like to eat it.

Small pasta in a light broth is delicious. particularly when ill- especially with parmesan cheese added. You can also buy a glutinata version for small babies in Italy (which has the gluten removed - brand plasmon)

You can cook it with loads of broth and some vegetables so you get more of a soup or less broth so it gets more mushy and is considered good invalid food.

I couldn't find the minestrina type pasta in normal supermarkets here when I last looked so I went to specialist Italian delis.

Small farfalle like pasta is OK for a light minestra but you really need the tiny minestrina type pasta for the light invalid/baby type comfort food - at least I do

marilla · 06/09/2006 07:42

In tesco's the other day I got a pack of really small pasta shapes called "ditali rigati" - tesco's own make (blue packet)for 45p. It says "pasta of the season" on the pack so I don't know if that means they not gonna be available all year round - could be worth stocking up cos it looks the perfect size.

trinityrhino · 06/09/2006 07:56

i used the peter rabbit pasta once AFTEER i had tried unsuccessfully to get dd2 to est normal pasta. your right it falls aprat so it was maimed bunnies in a cheesy sauce but she loved it

LaDiDaDi · 06/09/2006 11:14

Greenie, another thanks for asking the question that's been bugging me since I joined mumsnet 9 months ago.

sophiewd · 06/09/2006 12:26

Had the same problem. eventually foundsome pasta stars for soup in our local deli, which are small enough for DD. If you have a local deli try there. Ours is a one horse town in the middle of Dorset so I was impressed.

Jellytots · 07/09/2006 11:14

still confused are pasta stars gluten free , or is it ok after six months?

SoupDragon · 07/09/2006 11:16

hahahaha... I love it when BabyPasta crops up in active conversations

I bought some in Spain recently. Little stars and letters for 41c a bag. Bargain.

don't think these are gluten free but that's OK after some age or other which I can't remember.

Tutter · 07/09/2006 11:18

boots is now stocking annabel karmel baby pasta

Flamesparrow · 07/09/2006 11:21

I'm likin this maimed bunnies idea... can I traumatise DD for life???

bluebear · 07/09/2006 11:22

The way I remember it is...

About 5 years ago one of the baby food manufacturer's (I think it was Organix) used to sell tiny tiny pasta stars in a little box, and would also sell matching organic pasta sauces (well, tomato gunk). You could make 1 tablespoon of pasta at a time.
Then they discontinued the line.

This left parents who had fed their older children this 'baby pasta', searching for the stuff when their next child was being weaned - and sparked off the monthly 'Where can I buy baby pasta' threads.

TLV · 07/09/2006 14:52

waste of friggin money!, peter rabbit falls apart when cooked

TLV · 07/09/2006 14:54

ah yes boots stocking annabel karmel, why is it that you need her little dishes to serve food in???? will dishes from anywhere else not do???

julia12 · 20/07/2007 10:12

I use Plasmon Baby Pasta, this is what Italians feed their children, this stuff is great!! I buy mine from www.noonoos.co.uk very friendly reliable site.
