Self explanatory really - about to wean my baby but with my first i was able to buy larger 'bags' of baby rice .I resent having to pay 2 pounds something for three mouthfuls. Any one know any good sites for baby rice and suchlike?

Do you really need it? It's a bit minging tbh and tastes like wallpaper paste - veg and fruit purees would be a much nicer start. I used it with ds and he was singularly unimpressed so skipped it with dd and went straight onto far more interesting things.

I was wondering why on earth anyone would want a load of it too I don't think I used up the free Bounty sample pack!

There must surely be someway of making it yourself out of rice??

Homemade Baby Rice is an excellent first food, nice and bland, fruits and vegetables can be gradually added once baby has had a taste of them all alone first. Homemade Rice doesn?t have all the added vitamins that manufacturers put in theirs put its far cheaper this way and breast/formula milk compensates for this.
To prepare this boil and simmer some white short grain rice in a pan for 20-25mins and keep the lid on until the rice has absorbed all the water. Remove and blend with some of the baby?s usual milk until smooth and then store accordingly. I have also done this with pudding rice.

Have to say that I've never used more than one pack per child throughout weaning. Don't understand the £2 for 3 mouthfuls? You are buying the stuff dried aren't you?

In terms of appetite, root veg does tend to fill up little tums, and milk is still probably the main source of nutrient until 8/9 months stage anyway. Plenty of mash potato, sweetpotato can be used as a base for other foods.

I've bought the ordinary size of Organix baby rice from Waitrose. Think it was about £1.60 for 100g. Am still on first packet, 7 weeks after starting weaning. Never seen a large size, but why don't you check directly on the manufacturer websites to see if they produce bigger packs. Good luck.

Feb mums on here... should I have had some sort of bounty voucher recently? I don't know if I have and I've lost it, or just not had one. Thinking I should be on a weaning pack by now.

With regards to the rice... not a clue

When I saw this thread title I was convinced you must be wallpapering or something...

Could you not do Soupy's idea but freeze into cubes before adding anything (other than possibly a little water)? You could have a months supply all ready in advance for about 20p that way, and only have to cook and blend once a month too.
