Did your baby settle down after introducing solids?

Hi,

Did your baby settle down more after introducing solids?

My LO hardly drinks much milk during the day (she has silent reflux so maybe it's due to the that) and is just so so fussy! She is exactly 4 months and shows all the signs of weaning: can support head, lifts things to her mouth (she even grabbed the curtain and placed it in her mouth!), when you eat she looks at you like she wants it too etc. should I start her on solids? I think I'm just so tired with all her fussiness that I'm really hoping weaning will be the miracle cure Hmm

My dd2 had reflex really badly - was on meds until three and a half years.

She was a very hungry baby too, but I waited until six months to wean her. Our HV was very stern!!!

It did improve her sleep to some extent, but she was still as sicky and it was worse cleaning up vomit from solids than from milk. I would hold off if you can.

Good luck.

Hi,

Thanks!

My dd doesn't vomit much but has silent reflux. I'm still in two minds really.

Its totally upto you but for me introducing solids meant more work for me and less settled babies who both woke more at night...

I've weaned one a long tine ago at 16 weeks and one at 6 months doing blw. Honestly, I'd just wait. Seems like a long time now but its only a few weeks and weaning at 6 months just makes things so much easier. For a start you don't have to stick to just fruit and veg and babies of 6 months can self feed.

Jun wondering if you've seen the signs of readiness here and read the MN info on weaning? The Mn info is very good, but the timetable needs updating, if it hasn't been already. They should move onto 3 meals a day between 8 and 9 months according to the NHS guidelines.

Hey OP,just a bit of sympathy, 4mo was a horrid period for my DS: teething, developmental leaps aplenty, lots of fussy clingy crankiness :(

I think most people would agree that 4mo is a bit early to wean, but I know where you're coming from. remember thinking at that point in depseration, maybe a bit of food would help this endless crying:(

I ended up starting to wean DS the day he turned 5mo which is earlier than current nhs advice but i felt in my gut instinct that it was what he wanted. He was mimicking chewing actions whilst I was eating, and smiling at me whilst trying to swipe food from my hands. He could also sit up and when I tried him with a bit of food he did not push it out with his tongue.

ultimately, you need to go with your gut. Hang out for a few more weeks if you can but if you're still feeling like something is wrong at 5mo maybe try a bit of pureed veg and see how it goes. Remember, nationa guidelines are all well and good but you have to be sensitive to your baby;s needs.
