BLW - is it possible for baby to overeat?

I've been weaning DS (25 weeks old) for just 2 weeks and doing fully BLW - so I give him food on his tray and let him get on with it. Don't flame me for going early - I know some won't agree - but he is ready for it, massive, hungry and really enjoying his food so it's going very well!

He has breakfast and tea, and is already dropping milk feeds. It's hard to know precisely how much food is going in as there is a fair amount of mess but I can see food coming through in his nappies, and we have gone from 9 breastfeeds a day to 7 already.

He has always been BF on demand, so letting him decide how much he wants to eat seems natural to me - should I just keep putting bits on his tray until he shows no interest in eating more (which is what I've been doing)? Or should I decide on a portion and not offer him more than that? Is it possible for him to overeat, or will he just keep going until he is full? He only has fruit and veg at the moment, although had his first slice of toast today (and loved it!)
Thanks!

Not going to get flamed by me, my dd stole and scoffed a sandwich at 23 weeks, after that there was no stopping her.

I'd just make sure you offer solids roughly an hour after milk and not move to 3 meals a day for a while, the NHS recommend between 8 and 9 months.

If you do those things I think its fine to just keep giving him things until he's had enough or the rest of the family have finished.

Don't think there is any need to limit his diet to fruit and veg at this age either. Why not try him with some of your meal tonight (providing its not too salty) or cheese on toast or a nice sandwich? You can always offer the fruit and veg on the side Smile

Thanks Julie - that's helpful. We branched out to all having chickpea patties from the BLW cookbook tonight which went down a treat and think we might try cheese on toast as you suggested tomorrow. Good advice about sticking to 2 meals a day for now too - thanks!
