8 month old and lumpy food = sick

I have been trying to feed my lo lumpy food for weeks now and everytime I do she gags and is sick ALL down me!!! I started weaning her at 4mnths and she is on 3 meals a day with all puréed food (mainly jars)
She will happily eat lumps if I put pieces in her mouth or by feeding herself (which never ends up successful as the food goes to waste). I have just started adding weetabix to her cereal which is textured and that's going well.
I don't know what to do as I know she should be on lumps now
Any advice?
Thanks

I would suggest that you keep giving soft finger foods and let her keep trying. It is a skill that babies need to learn so you need to keep offering finger foods so that she can learn to chew and swallow.

What would happen if you let her feed herself all her food - even the mashed food, using her hands? She might prefer to be more in control of what goes in her mouth.

Either way I think you just need to keep trying. As long as she is still getting plenty of milk (breast or formula) she will be fine whilst she is learning how to chew and swallow.

Thanks for your reply.
She takes the food easy and puts it in her mouth fine and bites but after a while gets bored and chucks it on the floor. I feel that she's not getting enough this way but will persist as I can't keep feeding her puréed jars.

My 8 month old does this.
I'm doing what you are doing and gradually adding texture bit by bit.

For example he has baby porridge for breakfast so I have bought a box of thicker stuff and I'm up to a t spoon full in the smooth stuff so far.

Also giving finger foods in small amounts. He munched a quarter of an orange tonight with his tea.

To be fair, food is secondary to milk at the moment in my opinion. Every little he eats is a bonus.

if he is sick i leave him for 10 minutes then give him a yoghurt and a Rusk or something.
Don't make a fuss or anything.

Slowly and with patience we will get to the big stuff.
