BLW quick question

Have posted previously about my 6mo DD reluctance to wean so now I'm going to BLW.
Despite fledging signs of being interested in food now, she still remains insufficiently dexterous to pick anything up on her own.
Last night she was being held on my lap and I was eating my dinner with my fingers (it was a wrap..) and she pulled my hand to her mouth and started sucking wildly at the food.
I know you're not meant to 'help them along' with it at all but is that ok?
She's not my first DC but DS was so different I feel like a total newcomer at this BLW!

I have just started BLW. She isn't as good as older babies so I so hold out food for her to pick up sometimes. Then she does put them in her mouth

I'm no expert having just started myself but personally I reckon if she's controlling the food going in her mouth I wouldn't be too worried. I wouldn't try to encourage her to do it, just accept it if she does. And keep giving her the opportunity to pick things up herself.

But as I say I'm very new to this!

I've done BLW with my ds who is now 12 months, so I'm just speaking from my own experience. He was not very dexterous at the beginning, and would struggle to pick up certain foods. I would occasionally hand him pieces, and I don't think it does any harm to the whole process. If you keep offering opportunities to handle food as well then he will get there.

In the early days I did used to use a crinkle cutter on vegetables to make things easier to grasp, as well as cut things into batons.

HTH.

Sounds lovely - they always want what you eat! Just let her keep control even if you're both holding it, that way you're not forcing it down her throat and she can put as much as she wants in her mouth. It's really slow going at the start, they have so many skills to learn gradually before they can eat like a toddler.

I wouldn't worry too much about food getting into her mouth yet. At this age, it's more about exploring new tastes and textures. Let her lead you and you'll be surprised that she'll just pick something up and put it straight into her mouth.

DD2 wasn't very good at picking food up and couldn't aim for her mouth. She's now 21 months and loves to eat and feed herself.

Toast finger to mouth
Cheese and broccoli muffin (barf) to mouth

I am irrationally delighted

Well done Joseph's DD! It is exciting when they manage things isn't it.
