harpsi - I don't think you are accused of being smug are you? imo the smug person is the one who coined the phrase "baby led weaning".

morningpaper · 13/06/2006 08:58

yes I know but whenever I tell people I gave birth in a pool they always say "Oh a water birth - how lovely!" as though I have just told them I had a big white wedding on a sun-kissed beach. Obviously I smile and say constructive things like "Oh yes, it makes a huge difference having your fanny ripped apart in the bath!"

I detest everything that sets up these strange moral hierachies for women

morningpaper · 13/06/2006 08:59

I'm sure you're not smug Harpsi :)

But that article you quoted was v. smug

CorrieDale · 13/06/2006 09:09

Franny, how right you are! Whether's it's Wotsits or rice cakes, boob or bottle, there's always somebody to make you feel as though You Are Doing It Wrong.

CristinaTheAstonishing · 13/06/2006 09:24

MP - I hate the term "baby wearing" too. Despite a huge collection of slings I'd never, ever use that term myself. I'd add to Room 101 the terms "co-sleeping" (despite DD being still in our bed at 15 months) and also "birth" used as a verb. Sorry for the hijack.

but wotsits and rice cakes are wrong though.

CristinaTheAstonishing · 13/06/2006 09:28

Not if home-made.

harpsichordcarrier · 13/06/2006 09:31

I agree about baby wearing FWIW. I'm not too keen on breast feeding either, strangely.
but honestly, the cincept itself has been a revolution in this household.
the language of birth and labour is a very interesting subject to me as it happens....

FlameBoo · 13/06/2006 09:31

Grin I was planning on (in my words) "being lazy and leaving weaning until I have to puree as little as possible" - turns out I am morally superior!

Don't think I've ever had that experience before Wink

SD - see how many more fights you can get going in a day just by posting "?" Grin

Well, I though this had thread had died last night....

I wasn't trying to say that the Mners on here who had previously talked about BLW were sounding like they thought they were better mums, just the idea, Baby Led Weaning, sounded (and don't want to offend anyone with this but it's the only word i can think of that does justice to my response to the phrase) tw*tty.

Having done the pureeing/mashing/baby rice business twice before and not particularly enjoyed it, BLW has been a pleasure and I wish I'd known more about it back then

SenoraPostrophe · 13/06/2006 15:46

christina - you have home made wotsits?

so what is baby wearing when it's at home?

oliveoil · 13/06/2006 15:51

do Cow and Gate mention it on their website?

CristinaTheAstonishing · 13/06/2006 15:59

SP - LOL at home-made wotsits! No doubt someone out there makes something like that, though, so maybe I shouldn't laugh as it may offend someone.

I don't like the expression "Baby Wearing" as it sounds like it's a fashion statement, you know, today i shall be wearing my baby, colour coordinated with my sandals... I understand though that these are all shorthands for activities people want to identify with.

Anyway, I blame SoupDragon's controversial first post :)

morningpaper · 13/06/2006 16:03

Baby wearing is when you turn them into a nice handbag
