Poo question (sorry)

DS was EBF until 6 months and did 1-2 dirty nappies a day. He's now 7.5 months and loves his food, is gaining weight well (moving up the centiles) and very active and alert. BUT for the past couple of weeks, basically since he's been eating proper amounts of food, he now does at least 5-6 dirty nappies a day and his poor bum is getting sore from cleaning all the poo. Is this normal? Please tell me it will pass soon!

I'd cut down his solids for a couple of days, just offer once or twice a day and give him a little time to recover. If you're not doing it already I'd try offering the solids roughly an hour after his milk.

Have you tried metanium for his sore bum? Its the dogs Smile

Thanks. Just got some metanium so fingers crossed! I already offer solids roughly (very roughly) an hour after milk. Trouble is that he's already got used to food at certain times of the day and grumbles if it's not forthcoming! He seems to be self-regulating his food though, eg he ate very little for breakfast, a bit more for lunch and then ate loads for dinner (and would have eaten more if I had offered it).

I saw the health visitor this afternoon. She didn't seem remotely concerned as he's gaining weight so well, so might give it another couple of weeks to see whether it settles down and then maybe look again at his diet.

My DSs bowels went a bit mad for the first couple of months of weaning. Lots of little poos, rather than one or two big ones a day, iyswim? Now, at 8mo, it has settled back down to usually 2-3 a day, but the low point was 7!!

Haven't changed what I am doing at all, just rode it out and it settled down...
