If they are ready are they ready for anything?

DD2 is 22 weeks 5 days. Sits independently for up to minute. Can put things in her mouth and doesn't gag if self feeding.

Surely she is ready? But using that argument surely she is ready for anything? Wheat dairy cereal etc? By being ready surely her gut is sealed?

In my shoes would you wait until 6 months? And is that 26 weeks to the day?

I waited til 19 weeks cos DD was starving and milk wasn't cutting it, but it's all down to the baby and the mum. Try her on a little baby rice (note that once you give them porridge, they won't go back to rice, it's too boring!) She'll only need a couple of tiny spoons, if that. Remember, its a whole new experience, so don't be surprised if she spits it out! Grin She might show signs of wanting more, obviously don't force the issue and if she's not ready, try again in a couple of weeks.

BTW, my HV was not impressed that I fed her so early. She's now 1yr 23mths. Smile

Sorry just realised it said DD2, wasn't being patronising. Blush

No thanks for your reply.

I didn't quite mean that. I meant why wait to introduce other foods if they are ready. Like you say you need to look at the baby - not their age?

My feeling is you might as well wait till nearer 6mo for potential allergens (as per NHS guidelines), you can easily make meals without egg, wheat, etc - just start off on fruit and veg for example. We started on 1-2 meals a day at 24 weeks and built up slowly till she was just sharing our meals by 7mo.
