A lot of these cereals are GMO crops. I tend to avoid giving them to my LO. You can get organic Weetabix and organic puffed rice.

The own brand ones from tesco, asda etc are better - less sugary.

I gave them to my little one though.

They were the object mentioned for checking pincer grip on my son's 9 month check questionnaire so the NHS obviously advocates them. Hmm

Ach, pretty much everything is fine in moderation. I'd say make sure you don't give them every day. There's nothing in them that isn't allowed for under 1s (avoid the honey ones though).

JollyHolidayGiant · 03/08/2013 10:05

We do use own brand ones instead as I don't buy Nestle :)

NoTimeLikeSnowTime · 03/08/2013 10:07

My two are addicted to them and they were one of the first thing they learned to self feed.
There is an Ella's version which is probably better for littlies though. The price difference and sheer volume consumed in this house means I have temporarily abandoned my nestle refusal policy Hmm

In the UK genetically modified organisms in food have to be labelled as such, so if you are worried about GMO then check the label. The US version of Cheerios does contain GMO but that is different to the product available in the UK.

Cheerios do contain added sugar, so I would look for a cereal that didn't have added sugar, such as shredded wheat (supermarket own brand).
