Knickers in twist re blw

I did blw together with the odd puree with DS who is now 4. DD turned 6m yesterday and I started her on solids, BLW style, on Friday, so 4 days off 6m (because I wantedto start on a weekend when we had plenty of time). I cant really remember what DS was like but I am sure he took a while to swallow anything, played with his food, dropped everything, etc, like they are supposed to! And his nappies didnt look any different for ages.

DD however, picked up her slices of peach on day 1, ate, swallowed, and has been eating and swallowing ever since. Obviously still drops stuff but generally, straight in there. She eats fairly well off a loaded spoon as well. She has had risotto, roast chicken, salmon, frittata, as well as fruit and veg sticks. This is not a weird stealth boast, rather that I am panicking now that I am going too fast! Her nappies have changed already, kind of dark green with bits in (sorry TMI!!!). I have had the odd negative comment from family and friends and I feel all at sea. Is this daft? She had spag bol with DS last night and afterwards I was worried it might have been a bit rich (quite fatty?)

Also she is struggling with her cups so I cant get any water in her. I think this is OK as I dont recall DS drinking much water at this age, is it? She is EBF and that hasnt reduced I dont think, if anything she is feeding more at night. No worries there, althugh more sleep would be good!

I suppose I am after reassurance re Blw. Because she is actually eating already rather that playing, I am panicking about her digestive system not coping, or something. Also, because i have a 4 year old DS to run about after too, she is not really having the lovingly prepared steamed veg sticks that he had, but really just whatever I am cooking, obv without salt, honey, nuts etc. i think i need someone to tell me that this is the right thing to do, am I being a bit too blase about it because she is dC2?

Thanks in advance and sorry for the ramble!!!!

She is 6 months, she is swallowing ok, she's fitting in with what the rest of the family are eating... Can't see a problem! Trust your judgement, you've already managed to raise a child to the age of 4!
Don't worry about the critics, a lot of people still don't understand blw, but what matters is what works for your child and your family.

That sounds fine! Probably if you'd have started earlier she'd have done the playing thing. Because she's that bit older she's just getting on with it - fantastic!

Shes doing great - my ds ate everything he could get his podgy little hands on from the day I handed him a corn on the cob at 6 months. Some of my friend were most perturbed by him happily gumming at steak and chip when they were spooning sweet potato puree, but hes always been a great eater ever since

You wait till 6 months so their digestive system can cope. It's prior to 6 months people have to stick to boring fruit and veg.

What she's eating sounds great! Fat is good for babies, remember. They need fatty foods and full fat milk. Baby led means just that.

It's "baby led" so your baby decides when she's ready to eat. Some start straight away and some can take months to start. You read threads on the forums complaining that their babies don't actually eat and just make a mess

I've just started my 6 month old at the same time (4 days early, like you) because I could not stop her grabbing toast out of my hand! It's been 10 days and we are whipping through all the sticks of vegetables etc like yourself, and as I have a toddler too, she is having whatever we eat.

I feel a bit put out too - number 1 I carefully made up purées every night, went without my own meal to spoon feed him - but his sister just prefers to get on with it and stuff it in! It's messy, but works much better for family meals, and toddler even ate broccoli the other night after seeing baby do it.

I agree with the above, seems like she's ready to go, but speak to hv if she's any good?

Thanks all... Have calmed down and am letting her go with it. It's so funny to watch her. My DS is very interested as well, and, like the PP, stuffed broccoli down himself yesterday after seeing DD do it.

Will remember these days when she hits 2 and refuses to eat anything!
