8 month old and lumps!

My baby has just turned 8 months and I don't know if i should be concerned or not over her lack of love for lumps!

We give a mixture of puréed hm food and finger foods at each meal.

she eats purees with no problems - she will also have ready brek and weetabix (Hates baby cereal!) and will tolerate a mashed banana and even the small pasta stars that you can buy.

However when it comes to all her finger foods she happily puts them in her mouth - appears to chew - then spits them out! I have tried so many different pieces of foods and she does the same with all of them!

The only thing she appears to "eat" are the organix carrot sticks and corn rings!

Should I be worried that she won't swallow the finger foods? Confused

Someone may correct me, but in ny very limited experience (my 10 month old) it sounds fine. I've done mostly finger food since he pretty much refused to be spoon fed (except yoghurt) and much of what went in got 'spat' out for the first couple of months.

Even now he finds it hard to keep food in his mouth when trying to chew - I think the chewing movement pushes food out of the mouth and he doesn't yet have the skill to keep it in. In fact, I can tell if he's really enjoying something as he keeps his hand in front of his mouth to try and stop it falling out. Both comical and a little revolting..

As she's happily putting food in at the moment I'd personally not worry!

It can take a few months for babies to get the idea and actually properly eat the food. It's baby led, your baby is deciding when s/he is comfortable to eat. You should take the attitude that food is for play until about the age of one.

Thanks for the advice! Glad it's a natural thing for them not to "eat" the finger foods! Will keep offering her finger foods to explore and let her decide at her own pace when she eats them! Smile
