Can my 7 month old eat ready brek??

OP posts:

Yes, and its so much more cost effective than 'baby' porridge.

Lottiesmama312 · 31/07/2013 14:27

Agree with loupee, and the pack lasts forever!

My little one loves it mixed with fruit purée, yoghurt or mashed banana with cinnamon! Yum!

I do the same with weetabix! Again - much cheaper than 'baby cereal'!

ShowOfHands · 31/07/2013 14:32

Of course. I never bothered with it as I just make normal porridge in a vat for all of us but it's perfectly acceptable for weaning.

Jammee · 31/07/2013 14:51

I did not know this. I thought it was too salty and have been giving my 29wk/o expensive baby porridge. Can you really give RB? The salt is not a problem in RB OR weetabix??

If so, I will definitely try these!

Lottiesmama312 · 31/07/2013 15:03

I don't know if i have the correct answer Jammeeas I get so confused by salt and sugar content in foods sometimes...... But my health visitor was the person who told me to try them instead of baby cereals which my baby hated! So hopefully it is classed as ok to give them!?

Will be trying "adult" porridge on my little one this weekend tho!

Ready Brek has no added salt so perfectly fine for babies. Weetabix does have both salt and sugar added so up to you as to whether you use it or not.

ShowOfHands · 31/07/2013 15:13

A lot of people erroneously believe that Ready Brek has salt and sugar in it. It doesn't.

There's no point really to buying baby cereals.

ShowOfHands · 31/07/2013 15:15

Ingredients are: Wholegrain Rolled Oats (60%), Wholegrain Oat Flour (38%), Calcium, Niacin, Iron, Riboflavin (B2), Vitamin B6, Thiamin (B1), Folic Acid, Vitamin D, Vitamin B12

So oats, oat flour and added vitamins and minerals.

NoWayPedros · 04/08/2013 20:16

Don't buy baby cereals, ridiculous waste. Porridge or RB. DD is 1 now and also has rice crispies or shreddies occasionally but prob prefers porridge/RB as you can make it taste different with fruit etc. as others have said.

Ready Break, or porridge when he's ok with lumps.

If you make it fairly thick (well, porridge, I assume RB works the same way), and spread the extra on a plate, you can cut it into fingers for the next day.

We have moved to wetabix (which do contain salt and sugar - own brand often have less than the originals) rice krispies and cornflakes now its summer.
